Original Halloween Song - A Ghost Story

Alright, so I went all the way with you on this one Llarion. I nixed the weird guitar breakdown and stopped on the last "bury you". A freaky thing happened when I did that. It opened up the main vocal and exposed and final breath, which I though sounded like a natural segway back into the guitar...

Complete retrack - Brownstone (with Pete Huttlinger)

My early-mix questions for you: 1) The melody is a chorused bass. I like it, but I don't like it, and I'm not sure why in both directions. I wanted mysterious, and string-percussive timbre... 2) Does the guitar solo have enough breathing room? is the harmony part too far apart in the field; do...

Original Halloween Song - A Ghost Story

Thanks for posting guys... Llarion, your review was much appreciated and very thoughtful, thanks so much. So I remixed it based on my original direction and your review and posted a second version. It's "A Ghost Story - Bare Bones". I'd be interested to see if you think it sounds like you...

Original Halloween Song - A Ghost Story

Just put the remix up and lessened the panning just a bit...boosted the bass too. Made it a little hotter as well.

Original Halloween Song - A Ghost Story

Thanks VHS. I originally approached this song as just a simple guitar/vocal...that was supposed to be it. In my mind it would have a Robert Johnson crossroads darkness to it. Then I realized that it wasn't going to work like that, so I decided to try a more small town theatrical approach where...

Original Halloween Song - A Ghost Story

Freaky is good. I was going for freaky. I kind of freaked myself out recording this. The last "ghost moan" I must have recorded 20 times trying to get the right sound. Very Stanley Kubrick in practice. Just posted a slight remix. Adjusted some levels, panning, etc.

Mother May I? (First draft mix).

This is tight. I like the vocalists alot. I really can't think of anything I don't like about the mix. Bass and drums lock in well together. The synth is very cool. The guitars sound great. Nice job.

    black cat mojo guitar session

Wow...freaky. Listened to "Woke Up Mosquitos." Yep, this guitar has the mojo. Walter, your stuff always sounds great. You've defiantly honed your sound to perfection, and your songs are always fun to listen to. Cool guitar, btw.

Collab of my daughter (13) and myself

Very cool that you and your daughter can share this kind of gift. You are both very talented. The lyrics are very heartfelt and sincere. The harmonies blend nicely. The performance is great. As far as the mix goes, I think the vocals had way to much reverb, and I'm a reverb freak. You sounded...

Original Halloween Song - A Ghost Story

Thanks Heat. That's basically me barking the "I'll" in that line. Then I put some delay on it. I think that's what you're talking about.

Mother May I? (First draft mix).

    I agree with kc.

    Bass line/critique needed.

This sounds cool. It's swinging. I like heat's bass - it fills in those lower frequencies well, but the overall fidelity and cool vocal seperation suffered from the digital to tape and back to digital conversion. Not to bad though. Heat...I might have stopped the bass during the breakdowns...

Original Halloween Song - A Ghost Story

I was in the ol' Halloween spirit and decided to write a song for the season. Critiques/comments welcome. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=805880&content=music A Ghost Story Sit my friend and tell me what you think you saw, Late last night while you were underneath the...

    Some Reggae

Yeah...it's good. I like the lead voice. Very laid back. The mix does seem to be a little off/muddy. Could try again maybe. Like the background vocals as well. Steel drums a la UB40 would be cool.

    Jazzy Thing...

This has a very cool Santana vibe to it. I really like this alot. Lead guitar is the clear winner here. The upright sounds very mellow here and woody. Great performance.

    She-Wolf - Greg_L original

Probably the coolest song you've ever done. Drums are fantastic. Guitar solos are blistering. Love the "She Wolf" chant. Production sounds spot on. The dumb lyrics are awesome.

    Egg-Bone Rollers

This sounds really good. Love the guitar tones. Also like the organ. Listened to the first two. Poached egg mama is o.k. Prefer the first one. The vocals stand out from the rest of the mix to me. They don't quite "sit" to me. The music gels fine, but something about the vocals seems...

    Acoustic soundtrack

Acoustic sounds great strat. Nice recording. First thing I heard was Marshall Tucker band. Same progression and notes, and the flute really takes it there.

    rowboat

Heat, you know I'm a big Beck fan, and I always here a little bit of him in your stuff. Nice to finally hear you cover Beck. Nice choice of songs too. This version is great. I really dig the backwards guitar/lap steel effect. This song has a country twang to it, but it's also trippy as hell...

New one, "Neck Deep in the Sand"

Matt, These has a cool vibe. Not sure why, but this reminds me alot of the Presidents of the United States of America. I like the dynamics of the song. I would almost like to hear some crunchy electric guitars when it kicks into the final chorus to give it that extra whatever after the...
