What's happened since, from what I can tell is this:
It's cheaper, buggier, has higher system requirements, and comes with lots of stuff. It's now marketed as being for Electronic Musicians by Apple folks.
Less midi hardware support, less scsi-midi support, a bit more suck.

No. It sucks. The full version of Cubase is dumb expensive and not worth it for someone just starting out.
LE4 is free with hardware, unlimited tracks and excellent midi support.

Except that it doesn't support a lot of hardware...Cubase le 4 is great and you can use the install disc on any number of computers because the OEM licensed disks generate a random key each time.
Used minidisk, one of those little stereo mics they sell and you've actually got a pretty damned good chance of making a live recording that sounds cool.
Leave it on. It may have some sort of internal disk defrag/optimization tool. It may also have an internal battery for regulating time stamp that is dead (that one is from my ass). The best thing to do would be to back up your stuff (is that possible with this box?) and to deep format the...
