Yeah, I might just use my closet for now, use carpet on the ceiling. I don't have the resources to build my own studio or anything like that.
I'm often conflicted about whether I should buy entry level equipment or just buy something expensive so I don't have to spend money upgrading, even...
Thanks for the replies.
Yeah, I read somewhere that a studio really starts and builds piece by piece, not all at once. I think I'm trying to do/get everything at once, and I don't really have a reason to be rushed at all. I'm going to focus on the basics first and focus on room acoustics later...
Invest in better sound treatment?
I plan on recording in my 13.5' x 12; x 8' bedroom.
I'm debating whether to get a Rode NT1-A and get some Auralex pads for the corners of my room, or just get one AT4047 and no Auralex pads. My main concern is that I don't like having to buy things knowing...
I'm new to computer recording. What would I need to hook up a Firebox to this laptop?
Here're the other things I'm planning on getting:
1 AT4047s or 2 AT4033s, still haven't decided yet.
2 KRK RP-5 monitors
Sony MD-R headphones
FL Studio for drum tracks? Could I use Cubase that comes with the...
I'm still trying to decide if I want to get a pair or just a really nice one. I'm going to use a Firebox for the audio interface. I'm limiting myself to $1000 total. Studio monitors are going to cost me another $300.
I could get two AKG Perception 200s, or I could get one AT4033CL. I've also...
I want to start a studio in my bedroom, but don't know what I need to do to minimize noise. Don't some people try to record in wardrobes as a cheap solution?
Do most people just use this as a scratchpad for ideas, not for transferring to computers and sharing? Is it only worth it as a scratchpad in your opinion?
Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to reconsider things in the long term. Will PCI ever become completely obsolete? I also have a newer computer that has PCI-Xpress....though I'm not sure if that's for a graphics card. Is PCI compatible with this?
I'm now also considering going for the...
You should look up Norman guitars. They're handcrafted by Godin, the same company that makes Seagulls; it's just a different label.
All of their guitar are under $1000. A lot of people recommend them for their rich tone. A lot of people compare them with the rich bass of Martins and the crisp...
It's 2 Ghz and only has 256 MB RAM. I wanna upgrade it to 1 gig.
I'm planning on ditching my previous Firebox plan. I really have no idea if I'd be better off quality-wise using firewire or with PCI; I just know that PCI would be a lot cheaper for me.
I might go with the M-Audio Audiophile...
Okay, now that I have more money, I'm setting my budget at $400. I'm going to get two MSH1's + an LD for vocals.
I'm considering the MXL V63M, largely because it comes free with a PreSonus Firebox (I'm going to get an interface instead of a standalone multitracker) for $300 on musiciansfriend...
Wow, the Naiant does sound really good on guitar. And I can't believe how little money I'd have to shell out for two of them.
What would you recommend for piano and a hand drum like a djembe? I've been hearing good things about the AT 2020. Or I could just use Naiants for them. I'm also...
A very simple solution would be to download Audacity for free, buy a cheap mic, import the song, set Audacity to play while record, then just record your vocals, then export it again.
Thanks a lot for the advice. I'm planning on getting an MR8HD. I'm not sure if it has phantom power. I think it does though....yes it does.
Would any preamp do? Like an ART Tube MP Studio Mic Preamp? Since, I'm just starting out, I don't want to spend too much.
Hi, I'm totally new to recording.
I'm getting a Fostex 8-track. What would be better for recording guitar, piano, conga and cello? I'm planning to play all of these instruments myself.
I know that having two mics opens up more possibilities for stereo imaging, but don't know if one excellent...
