    Rock and Roll mix...please critique

Nice start -- sounds a lot better than some of the crap I was recording when I was a teenager. :) The main problem with your mp3 is the levels are set WAY too low. Just playing the file in something like WinAmp you can see the the levels barely get into the yellow. That means that you're...

My music store doesn't know CRAP about the guitars or basses they sell!

What do you expect. Guitar salesman and used car salesman are very similar creatures. I wouldn't trust anything they said even I thought they knew something. If you're buying a new guitar then trust your fingers and your ears -- not some loser hack of a guitar store dude.

Weird but upbeat rock song (2)

The song sounds pretty cool, but there seems to be a lot of distortion on the vocals. The backing vocals in particular seem to clip like crazy. It seems the base may be clipping as well. I like the totally bizzare ending. :)

Yes, a visitor with very nice legs. :)

    Listen that one!!!

Very nice "first recording". I thought the drums and base sounded great. The guitar seemed a little "flat". You might want to see if there is something you could do to punch that up a little. The original has such a great guitar sound that your competition is tough there. Keep up the nice...

    Pics of my new studio

Well, my little studio is finally starting to come together nicely. A picture is here: http://www.xalien.com/studio/xalien_studio-may-6-02.jpg Here's a list of what I'm using: Studio Gear --------------- Sony VAIO P-III 800 Yamaha AC-XG Sound Card (this piece of junk goes next) Cakewalk...

Delta 44 and mixer or Delta omni

I've read good reviews of the Omni, but don't own one. I do have the MX1604A and it works great for me. Have a mixer with a bunch of tracks is nice even when you're only recording a few at a time. When I have friends over to record we can get everyone plugged into the mixer and then just turn...

    Why, why, why?

I've seen a similar problem with Guitar Trax. However, there's a slight variation. If I just record a few measures at a time everything is great, but the longer I record the further off what I'm recording gets from the playback. It can eventually get off by a whole beat or more. Anyone else...

Yet Another DANCE track...(work in progress). Need comments !

I couldn't open your song. Why post it as a zip file? What was supposed to be inside it. I downloaded the zip, but then when I opened it there was nothing inside the zip file and WinZip could see.

    Straight Up Hard Rock!! (1)

Very slick. Nice mix, and a catchy tune. I like the vocals, but it might be fun to experiment with some heavier vocal processing -- I think the style is condusive to it. For example, I think the chorus would sound really good with a scratchy "low-fit" vocal with a little distortion or maybe...

    Our 4 song EP

I listened to prisoner. The vocals really get lost in the mix. I think the vocals are a little dry. Overall the vocal performance is pretty good, but the singer really misses the high-note at 3:48. You might try another take there. :) I really like the clean guitar sound during the verse...

    Re-recorded

Rock on. I like the guitar sound. What are you using? My only suggestion is I thought the fade at the end where the drums come back in was odd. You might just cut the drums and let the guitars fade. I think that would sound cool.

    My first band recording

Cool. Nice guitar sound. I'd actually pull that up in the mix a little. I agree with what others have said, the snare drum sound needs help. I'm no expert with recording live drums, but you might try something like turning up the high-end of the EQ on the snare to make it sound a little less...

    Sonar 2.0 Demo Available

I've been checking out the demo for the past couple days. I'm a GuitarTrax Pro user right now, and I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade. I'd like to be able to do MIDI, which GT Pro doesn't do. I like GT because it's so much like a "real" multitracker and it's easy to use. SONAR seems a...

    Mesa Boogie Triaxis recording direct??

My friend has a mesa-boogie pre-amp and we tried running it into my J-Station. On the J-Station you can turn off the amp model and just use the cabinet. It seemed to work well, and sure was a lot of fun to play with, but we haven't tried any serious recording. However, the J-Station route...

Just got my first pair of real monitors!

I don't know about all their products, but I also have a Midiman 2x2 USB MIDI interface and it works great. So far I must say I'm very happy with their products. What are you talking about? Those little blue lights are the best feature in the whole package! :)

Just got my first pair of real monitors!

For the past few months I've been living with my "computer" speakers for mixing. Today I went out and got myself a pair of M-Audio Studiophile SP-5B active monitors. I know these are far from the best thing out there, but I think they sound great. I've been listening to the mixes I've done...
