    Line 6 AX2 question

Anyone know if there is a cheaper alternative to that $250 foot pedal? I've been looking at the line 6 spider (~$400), but that extra cost for the pedal just kills me.

I'm starting to build my studio, and I need some help and ideas. HELP!!!

Yeah, I read the same article as Riverdog and thought it was great. I'm still fleshing out my studio and it gave me some really great ideas. My wish list is growing!

One more try, please give this a listen.

Ah, some nice punk music. It relaxes my nerves. :) The guitar pretty much dominates the mix. The bass guitar is pretty much totally lost and the vocal get's drowned out some. You might want to work on the levels a bit. Beyond that, you might want to work on some stereo separation. The...

    Lets discuss monitors.

There are "passive" monitors, and "active" monitors. Active means that an amplifier is built into the monitor. Passive monitors require a separate power amp. There are many reasons you might choose one over the other, but none of them have to do with the fact you're doing hip-hop. Since...

Cheapo but decent nearfield monitors to tide me over?

For $100 you might look at the Roland MA-8 speakers. I played with these a little at the store and they seemed to be a cut above normal computer speakers. For $300 check out the Studiophile SP-5B. I have a pair and like them a lot. Small, powered, shielded, cheap and they sound nice to my ears.

    Line-in recording from amp

If you want to go "direct in" and not mic an amp you might want to check out an amp modeler like J-Station or Pod. They're designed for this, and while they might not sound quite as good as a well mic'd amp, they'll sound much better than what you're trying now.

Pics of my new custom monitor stands

mixmkr, Yes, it's a mess under the desk. :p As for top heavy, I was a little worried about that, but a couple days after I installed these guys we have a 5.0 earthquake very near where I live. I was sitting at the desk at the time and the stands did wobble, but they didn't fall down! :)

So I went to Ace Hardware today...

Fiberglass doesn't cause cancer (AFAIK), but it's nasty stuff. If you don't handle it right you'll get splinters and if it isn't contained you can wind up breathing the fibers (yuck!). I don't know whether this is what you're after, but Mars Music seems to have a really nice deal on some...

Tried out the Studiophile SP5B active monitors

Chess, Be sure to let us know how those V4s work out. I'm curious to see how you like them after you've had them home a little while. Hopefully they work out really well for you.

Cool groove. You've got a nice Pink Floyd thing going on there. :-) Very clean sounds. Keep it up.

Tried out the Studiophile SP5B active monitors

Tubedude, I'm sure those Tannoy's are nice monitor's but the Reveal's in that price range aren't powered. You'd need to include an amp in that comparison. The powered Tannoy Reveals are $800. Chess, No offense taken. I haven't seen the M-00 monitors. I'll have to check those out.

Pics of my new custom monitor stands

Mousepads! Now that's not a half bad idea. I wound up looking for a long time trying to come up with something suitable. I eventually wound up at an arts and crafts store. I bought some rubber feet for the bottom of the stands, and some small foam pads for the top (to go under the monitors)...

Tried out the Studiophile SP5B active monitors

As one of these "well meaning posters" who has said nice things about the SP-5Bs I must chime in here. First off, you say that another pair of monitors that costs 67% more sound better. Well, there's a shock!!! The fact is that these monitors seem to fit into a niche that has really excited...

Help me mount my 1st monitors

In case anyone's interested, here are the stands I build for my Studiophiles: http://www.xalien.com/studio/stand3.jpg http://www.xalien.com/studio/xalien_studio-may-6-12.jpg They're quite different from the nice looking set Fangar posted, but they're very functional.

    New Card?

I've been looking at the 828 myself lately. I've heard many great things about them, but always from Mac users. I've heard one or two complaints about PC compatibility. Any PC users running with the 828 have any comments?

    Plans for a computer desk?

Just for comparison here's my desk set up: http://www.xalien.com/studio/xalien_studio-may-6-12.jpg My printer is just off to the left of this frame. The next thing I plan to do is add some rack space below the desktop on the left side (the side opposite the pc). I'm also planning on getting...

    Getting Started w/ MIDI

Hi Flapo, Thanks for the note. OK, so replacing my soundcard with another soundcard with better MIDI capability is one way to go. I'll look into that. Does anyone have suggestions for good "softsynth" software? -Steve
