    Amen to that.

Is it wrong to like The Edge?

Though I wouldn't call them a rip-off band, Third Eye Blind was very clearly influenced by U2. Particularly their original guitarist, Kevin Cadogan. As I recall he cited Edge as a mighty big influence.

    Venue Directories? Finding Gigs?

Any advice on finding venues to promote one's band to? I'd like to tour around the northeast. I'm from Connecticut. I'd like very much to play in NY, ME, RI, MA, NJ and PA. However, I don't have the faintest clue where to begin looking for joints to play in. Words to the wise?

    working with active bass lines

As ridiculously lame as this sounds, my only idea for making sure you don't have disco, Primus, DMB, Yes, or VH guitar, is to just put jdavidb style guitar work on it (it sounds like you're a guitarist). Kinda sad, but "be yourself" is the best advice I can give. Is there a particular group...

    Record or gig first?

Agreed. Also agreed. I think that what our end result may be cheap made giveaways of 1-2 tracks, and full demos on sale. My primary goal is of course exposure rather than immediate cash flow, but I'd rather not have to keep paying out of pocket to rent the halls we play. Googling "CD printer"...

    Mixer/interface

I'm trying to find a particular mixer/interface that was released, I believe, this past march. From what I recall, it was a fully functional mixer and a recording interface. Does anyone know of this product or any similar ones? Basically, I'd like to be able to have a mixer to use live with a...

    Record or gig first?

My current project will be both my first serious band. In about 3-4 songs time, I'll be throwing D.I.Y. shows together. (speaking of which, anyone interested in playing southern CT during the summer, or northeast CT during the school year, get in touch :D) The drummer mentioned that in his last...

    Cafepress alternatives

::can't help but chuckle:: I think that a thong, you could probably get away with. Really though, to sell direct at gigs, I would DEFINITELY look around to find a local shop that can print them for you. Reasons being: 1. Price. A particular shop around here will print shirts, no minimum...

    all you singers out there...

I will not tolerate such pessimism! :D In all seriousness, stop with the "I'll never . . . " crap. Forgive me for being so forward, but you and me go way back: I haven't forgotten you hitting me with a rep point back in the day. :) Ask yourself if you wanna sing. If you want to sing, just...

    Cafepress alternatives

Well man, here's my thoughts on what I got: First of all, they put the logos on 3 shirts in the wrong place. Not a huge deal, they sent replacements next day air. The women's custom tanks I ordered looked pretty bad once they were worn. Breasts stretch the fabric enough to tear little cracks...

    Cafepress alternatives

Haha sorry guys, I meant Tees and such. I put it in marketing and publicity because thats where I figured merch stuff belonged. I ordered shirts from cafepress and they were just not at all up to snuff IMO

That clip is downright unnatural. I'll work through Love's book, and hopefully wind up with a range similar to your own. I'd be quite happy with 3.5 octaves I could hit well.

    Cafepress alternatives

Does anyone know of services similar to cafepress that make higher quality merchandise? I did an order with them and was entirely displeased with the quality of their products.

Bought Love's book at BN today. Havent gotten far, but it DOES look promising. He states that the average person should make it through 2.5 octaves without problems. I guess we'll see . . .

No your understanding of an octave is correct, and I don't in fact doubt that you do in fact have such a large range, as it is quite possible. Your generalizations of other people's voices are not quite as correct. Most people don't have such a large range. My range is from the second E below...

Good advice. Can you give a full name for this device and possibly recommend where I could order one?

? Please don't mistake me for being confrontational, and understand my admission that I claim to be no vocal expert, also that I have listened to your clip above and find your singing impressive. That said, I frankly find many of the claims in these last few posts of yours to be downright...

How do professional songwriters get their start?

I'm not terribly interested in being a non-performing songwriter. I'm just curious how they get heard by the big wigs.

Are those 3.5 and 3 octaves including or excluding falsetto?
