    Help me! i copy subconciously!

I woud have to agree with everyone else that you will always be strongly influenced by the songs you listen to. But also, you will probably become less and less dependent on other melodies as time goes on. The more you write, the more you'll find your own style. You'll certainly always be...

Has anyone going through CD Baby used...

I suppose that depends on the typical CD Baby shopper. If there are a lot of people who explore CD Baby for new music, then it may work. However, I think it's more likely that people find out about CDB artists through other means, and just use CDB to get the CD. So to conclude, I don't think...

    The Riot Of 1982

There are just a few things that I think of as cliches: to bury all this pain sounds like hatred and self-doubt so if love is not the answer then how can we be set free Sometimes, I get the feeling your rhymes are writing the song, rather than the other way around. That line ending in...

tips for planning a songwriting "sabbatical"

Being that you are trained in 3 instruments and sing, have you considered teaching here and there during this sabatical? Just curious, what is the day job you're leaving behind?

    free music needed

Dude, if I had anything recorded I would jump at the chance. Though I don't know how well a pop/rock/jam sound would fit in that sort of vid. PM me with your email and I will definitely keep it in mind in the future.

    Burned Roads (please critique)

I honestly doubt that many serious poets would agree with that. I don't mean to say that poems tell all, on the contrary they often leave certain things unsaid, but good poems do so no more or less often than good lyrics. Agreed about the comments though, although a bit harsh.

    Burned Roads (please critique)

I think you misunderstood why G# asked those questions. He wasn't asking because he didn't understand your song, he asked because a reader or listener will have those questions after analyzing your lyrics. I also agree that the phrase "nuance of eternity" really doesn't make much sense given...

    Just a thought...

To be honest, I can't imagine its a novel idea. There's a reason the phrase "It's not what you know, its who you know," exists. Let us know if he has good results. I'd certainly try it.

    Transcribing/Arranging Tool

I just recently added a sax player to my latest project. I have to write out a little bit more than I'm accustomed to, I wonder if anyone has had really good experience with any freeware notation programs? I'm kinda looking for something that can transpose so its easy to arrange for sax.

    show me the money!!!

I summarized :) to keep the thread short, but all that is really great advice. My one addition: practice singing. Many people don't, many believe you're good or you're not. Practice practice practice. It helps tons. Very good advice, Gold.

    Just got a new comp . . .

My new comp is a powerbook G4. I didn't get it specifically for recording, but I'm sure it'll fit the bill. I have an M-audio mobilepre that I bought to use for recording with my old PC. I'm not looking to do anything pro-grade, just demo some songs. Vox and acoustic guitar, thats primarily it...

Finger stregthening exercises - do they help?

Thats a very good point, and I certainly wouldn't recommend them to anyone with tendonitis issues, such as myself. I would HIGHLY recommend a tendon pad, that thing has cleared my pain and discomfort up very nicely. Honestly, I don't think gripmaster really serve much of a purpose at all...

Finger stregthening exercises - do they help?

Well, they don't hurt, I guess. However, to echo the above, real practice is 800 times more effective. As an alternative: Grab your ax, and fret the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th frets on the fifth string. Now, lift your index and pointer finger and alternate between the 5th and 6th frets on the...

    Your creative writing process...

Generally, I write lyrics first and foremost. Of course, I'll write riffs all the time, but more often than not, I'll place riffs/chord progressions with lyrics rather than writing lyrics to fit something instrumental.
