    Fuller mix help

Here's the best piece of advice about this that I ever got. Mind you, I ignored it, because I tried for a long time to "fix" everything with software. But the truth is that IF you record good tracks, a song will almost mix itself. If you have to do more than light compression and maybe some...

Buy new tweeters or get new monitors!??? Help Me Decide!!!

Something made the horns blow. If you change nothing, I would think the odds of it happening again would be high, but I'm no expert. As far as recommendations for a low price, I'm sure these would suit your needs: Buy KRK Rokit Powered 5 Generation 2 Powered Studio Monitor (Each) | Powered...

Ok, I have a followup question: What the fuck?

    Singing from my diaphragm?

Nothing should feel "tight" when you sing. Some old school vocal teachers will tell you that in order to maintain control of your air output, you need to tighten your abdominal muscles...(sort of like pushing hard to take a dump). I think this is poor advice. I'm not a vocal instructor, but I...

    mic etiquette?

If he's constantly sticking the microphone in the crack of his ass, that's really poor etiquette, and I would ask him not to do that...unless he's paying you a whole lot

Anyone still here that remembers Muzeman (Pete)

Yeah, I got the same one. I posted it at RP, because I think he posted over there more than here. I told her to send me descriptions or pics of whatever gear he had, and I'd try to help her put a value on it. Maybe all of us can.

    Fuller mix help

Yeah. And despite what the guy said, you can't just take a mono track and clone it and pan one left and one right. That's still mono. It'll just be louder. You can offset one of the tracks by 30 milliseconds and sort of get a stereo effect, but the way he did it in his tutorial was wrong. And...

    home recording

I love the TASCAM US-1800. It's around $400 US. I like that it's USB, the preamps are adequate, and it has been functionally flawless over the past 6 months on a PC. I assume the same is true with a Mac. It's got 8 XLR inputs...10 total inputs. Others may have better suggestions

    Can you mix with headphones?

I think if you're used to recording yourself and you know about where your bass needs to be peaking and you know which custom presets work where, etc...you can more easily get away with it. But regardless of how "flat" my cans may be, I would never trust them. If I go solely by what...

Yeah, I do. Good acoustic player. Is that you, Pete?

Buy new tweeters or get new monitors!??? Help Me Decide!!!

I dunno' man...that amp produces 130 Watts per channel, and if your monitors are the 6P Tannoy Reveals, I think they're supposed to only handle 50. If you push them, you'll get signal burn and blow speakers (basically the opposite of what I said above) and I'll bet that's what happened. And...

    Studio Security.

Yeah, and your bigger problem is that for "off premises" personal property, the amount insured is capped at 10% of your home's value. So unless you have a $15 million dollar home, you're boned under a homeowner's policy. Of course, if it's in your house, different rules apply and it doesn't...

    Critique on Rap

Wow...this is pretty fucked up. One thing that needs to be done is for the repeating sample to be turned down when the rap starts. Is that Steely Dan sped up? When the rap comes in, that's a pretty jarring transition. Change is good, but it shouldn't make the listener jump...unless you...

    help for newbie, please :)

We can't really fix it for you...we can just give opinions about how it sounds. That 3rd clip that you posted is really harsh/abrasive/sonically annoying. You've got a whole lot going on in the upper mids and not nearly enough going on in the low mids. If there's a bass guitar in there, it's...

This whole site is about tips for getting fuller mixes. Since the title of that vid is "mixing of breaking away," I'm assuming the guy tells you what he did, right?

Buy new tweeters or get new monitors!??? Help Me Decide!!!

Did you get an amp with the monitors? If so, what's the power rating? I ask because the most common cause of blown tweeters is underpowered amp...you have to push the amp, which results in the amp distorting, which eventually results in blowing tweeters. So if you have to fix the monitors AND...

New Song "Moving On" - Looking for Mix Feedback

It's very handy, and it absolutely works as advertised. It's a little odd if you're playing at really low volume, because if you can hear the sound of the actual strings on the guitar mixing with the totally different notes coming out of the amp, it's really weird...but it's really not an issue...

    suitable guitar effect for guitar

Both I had an early POD years ago and it was superb. I have heard many great recordings made with newer PODs. I'm sure the Zoom is also suitable, but others will know better than me.
