    Live Take - Acoustic Thing

Thanks for listening - I haven't tried s plug. I tried sliding the vocal track a bit and reversed the phase on it. It hadn't occurred to me to invert the phase on one of the stereo tracks, and that definitely changed something. When I get back to Texas, I'm going to play around with it and...

    Waylon Jennings cover

Great performance. This version actually drives a little more, which is awesome, but the mix is a little fucked up. You're using some kind of slap/delay on the vocal, and maybe it's doubled or maybe not, but it's giving the vocal almost a phased sound. Waylon's mixes were definitely eclectic...

    Live Take - Acoustic Thing

I got a pair of Rode M5's today to track acoustics in stereo, and I asked my daughter to sit down and just play a song. She obliged. I'm pretty happy with the acoustic sound, but not so much with the vocal. There are some phase issues. I'm missing my favorite vocal mic at the moment, and it...

Yep...it found some bottom. Nice job.

Slut (Bye, bye, baby) **Up Tempo Rocker**

That's all awesome and shit. It's weird that something this polished has no thump. It's not really a sound thing here...it's a low end energy thing. There's just none.

I Will Not Listen To Your Song, But Listen To Mine

You nailed it 100%. Recorded the acoustic with a $35 dynamic mic, and that is ezdrummer 1. I think I'm one of the few people on earth who actually bought it. Thanks for the recommendation. I will grab ezd2. I gotta' say, it's been kind of a good challenge to start over with no gear. But...

    Dylan Anyone?

Interesting...what mic do you use to track acoustic? Preamp? Anything else in the chain? I think they sound great, it just sounds like compression to me, but some gear makes a similar sound to my ears, so I'm now curious.

I Will Not Listen To Your Song, But Listen To Mine

Thanks very much. It's not worth it, but I appreciate it. I think after re-writing it, retracking it, and changing large portions of the mix, the only parts I hate now are the drums, the bass and most of the vocal. It's practically done! All this mixing for a song nobody will listen to but...

I Will Not Listen To Your Song, But Listen To Mine

Ok, not that anybody should care, but for the record, I changed stuff again and updated the link. For most of the song, there's only one electric guitar, and it's on the left. I put some body back in the acoustic and put it on the right. I muted the electric guitar that was on the right...

I Will Not Listen To Your Song, But Listen To Mine

Thanks, Chili That acoustic part didn't exist when I posted this. It is nothing but high end, which is almost sacrilege for me on an acoustic, but I was trying it out. For fun, I'll try ditching one of the electric gits and panning the acoustic to see how it sounds. That's probably what...

I Will Not Listen To Your Song, But Listen To Mine

Thanks for listening. Yeah, I'm sort of going all schizophrenic on the mix, but I'm going to let it sit for a few days. The guitar tone is very middy - I think it's one of the few things I actually do like about the mix, though, so I'm probably not changing that. There's no EQ or processing...

I Will Not Listen To Your Song, But Listen To Mine

Yeah, I played everything. I have a very limited repertoire, but it's expanding in my old age! I took your advice and high passed the shit out of an acoustic. Most of my recordings start with acoustic...I just never got around to it with this one, but it definitely "biggens" the project some...

    Dinosaur Jr -- Tarpit (Cover)

Also, if I just wrote 8 paragraphs telling you shit you already know, I apologize. I don't really know where you are in the mixing journey. You have to use your ears, but cutting a guitar starting at around 2.5KHz will usually make the vocal pop out more. That's a starting point.

    Dinosaur Jr -- Tarpit (Cover)

I never lower the guitars, personally. Guitars only go up. And I'm not really being too silly about this...let me do my best to explain. First, I'm familiar with the original, so I can appreciate the mix oddities. I like the use of the phaser/flanger. If it's distracting, you're doing it...

    Dylan Anyone?

I think the thing with the acoustics may just be a compression issue. They ring a little bit too much in the top end, but they were clearly recorded beautifully. Super nice performance.

I Will Not Listen To Your Song, But Listen To Mine

Figures, lol. It was too loud in the first mix. I appreciate you listening. I think I'll upload one more for tonight with the vocal up some and then give this a day and listen again. Maybe I can mix a vocal right. That bridge pickup is a humbucker that's brutally middy. It sounds like...

Paranoid - (slightly punk) Black Sabbath Cover

I like the solo tone about 10,000x better than the original...but Iommi does something kind of cool on the original. There's a harmony line pretty low in the mix...similarly fuzzed out like the true lead, but the effect ended up being pretty cool.

The Lonesome Boatman - new track and first collaboration.

The concept is really nice. The "flute," I guess? Parts of that are too pitchy...it's distracting. It sounds like a flute is underwater and phased. I think that's an instrument that's hard to mix in general...it's pretty loud here. Or maybe I'm just noticing it more because of the pitch...

Island Hopping with easlern and ibleedburgundy

I don't know what version I listened to, but that sounds like something I can't possibly improve. Parts of it reminded me of Steely Dan. Tasteful comes to mind.
