    Help me please!

I didn't even see the usb part. Are you connecting it through the USB port? Or are you going into the sound card of your computer?

    Help me please!

Stock sound cards are frequently very loud and hissy, and so are some board preamps... which is why most people use an outboard interface with preamps on it to record instead of plugging a mixer into the stock sound card of a computer.

Which preamp to invest in for the Neumann u87 mic?

    What's your budget?

Which preamp to invest in for the Neumann u87 mic?

If you take a $3,400 microphone and plug it into your stock soundcard on that Mac, I'm going to find out where you live and come over to punch you in the face.

    Stuttering playback after recording multi-track

I meant that I think your audio stuttering is the result of using a shit soundcard. I was wondering if you had tried using an external interface to convert your audio to digital in order to go to the computer. Something like THIS for example?

Latency Issues With Adobe Audition 3

I'm just guessing, but it sounds like you may be monitoring through AA instead of through the soundcard?

    Can you mix with headphones?

Hey, speaking of monitors. You know what bugs me? Statements like this one that I pulled out of a user review of some monitors: "The stereo field with these monitors is incredibly wide, making it really easy to see your music in 3D. You can tell exactly where each instrument is sitting in the...

Using a SM-57 for vocals.. and how to make the best of it

There have actually been some pretty famous recordings made with a 57 used on the lead vocal. "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson comes to mind. I think Phil Collins recorded through a 57 also. It should work fine. I mean, if you were trying to capture an intimate ballad being sung by Allison...

Mic volume very quiet - possible problem in setup?

No, I believe you, lol. It's always the mic cord, right? If it's not that, then I'm useless to you because I will have exhausted 100% of my technical knowledge. Good luck.

Mic volume very quiet - possible problem in setup?

and you're totally sure it's a dynamic mic that doesn't need phantom power?

    2 tracks???

I would never do that. Usually, a music bed that sounds great without a vocal needs some adjustment when a huge part of the audio spectrum is suddenly taken up with a lead vocal right in the middle of the track. I usually have to make several EQ and level adjustments to the guitars and drums...

    What Are Impulse Files?

PERFECT!!!! Thanks, guys...this sounds interesting, and I'm looking forward to trying it out. I'm sure I could have googled this stuff, but I wouldn't have known about ReaVerb or that this technology is awesome.

    Stuttering playback after recording multi-track

I think I highlighted your problem. You're not using any external audio interface?

What are the issues with USB mics?

Fair enough, but nobody says USB interfaces are inherently inferior...because they're not. That's just a fact. What are you arguing about?

    What Are Impulse Files?

I don't understand what you mean, but I'll try it. So...I could totally isolate my vocal by singing with one of those mobile vocal booths, then I could create an impulse of my room, then mix that reverb back into the vocal. OR....I could just ditch the booth, lol.

    What Are Impulse Files?

Ahh...ok, cool. Does it have impulses in there? I'm assuming you can download impulses from...places, right? I'm getting lazier in my old age, but it's not that I'm too lazy to open Reaper and figure it out...I'm not near my DAW right now, so I can't.

What are the issues with USB mics?

That's interesting. Considering that probably half of the audio interfaces being sold these days are USB, I guess you can't blame the port or the technology, right? Maybe it's because of the lack of a preamp...

    What Are Impulse Files?

Thank you very much for the explanation. I sort of had an idea of what it was, but no idea how to go about using one. So now I just need to look for the thing highlighted in red up there and try it out. Sounds like fun...and out of the hundreds of thousands of digital reverb choices I have, I...

    Fuller mix help

It's real basic stuff...but yeah, I was in the middle of the 2nd video when I saw that "chestnut." Some of his other advice was probably helpful, especially to newbs...his explanation about taking low mids out of an acoustic guitar and turning it into basically a percussive instrument was (I...
