    Sound Proofing do's and don't!

Could you give us a plan of the room? Where the angled walls are, etc.

    Reduce carrying sound

Hi guys, I'm helping out a local youth club who are considering offering rehearsal space to local bands. Thing is, they have other people using the building at the proposed times. The rooms are far apart, but the sounds really seems to carry down the corridors. I plan to install proper seals...

    Room treatment?

Those "appliances" next to the drums are exactly what we recommend on here because they're cheap, easy to make and work really well. We dont recommend people get carried away, just do enough to make a domestic room acceptable.

    Room treatment?

The drums are surround by 4'x4' rigid fiberglass traps (they look 6-8" to me) as well as some cupboards and fridges. The pictures of vocals are usually too close to see acoustic treatment but I'm sure I saw some rigid fiberglass traps and diffusers in the background. Also, you can see the...

I see plenty of acoustic treatment/design. What pics are you talking about?

Home Recording Studio..Build it like the pros. 2nd edition soon

Nice one, I'm about to start my BA(hons) dissertation on home recording, so this is now top of my reading list!

    Diffusers

What size is your room? For home recording absorption is generally a far easier, cheaper and better option.

    Room treatment?

Universal Slab is what I used. I used RS45 in my own studio but RS60 when I offer acoustic consultancy. I order from a local builders merchant however and it's much cheaper: ~£18 for the 100mm x 600mm x 1200mm pack of 4 slabs.

It could be based on helmholtz resonance or diffusion.

    which rockwool to choose?

I'd say PAROC Slab 45 or PAROC NRS 1, but a better idea is probably to phone them and ask.

How do I soundproof room for lower cost.

2 layers is better than 3+ layers, so try and make it a 2 leaf system (although the double glazed window is already 2 layers). The best option imo is to cover the top of the window well, but you should make sure its sealed properly. Otherwise installing a second window inside the room, as far...

How do I soundproof room for lower cost.

Regardless of how many weak links you have, your build will only be as sound"proof" as your weakest link (usually windows and doors). Walls, especially exterior walls, tend to do a pretty good job by themselves. It's only when you cut a hole in them (door, window, etc) that you tend to have...

This is how I'd set up your control room. Something akin to WhiteStrat's :D

    Window for recording booth

Double glass window with parallel panes. The V "technique" does nothing to help isolation, and only confuses things with acoustics. Preferably you'd want to completely isolate both panes. Why? Don't Not a bad idea... Why the cork? That's awfully small and the angled walls are pointless. That's...

    Cheap/DIY Active Monitor attenuator?

Why not get a small mixer and take the output of the tascam into a stereo channel on the mixer. You can also use the mic preamps for your 4 line inputs if it has direct output/inserts. Shouldn't be too expensive... :D

    Corner Theory

It's not just 90 degree angles. It's any angles. There are problems close to any boundary, but in the corners there are two boundaries. So the wave is able to reflect onto itself in both directions and cause peaks and nulls (as below). This is happens more-so with bass frequencies as they are...
