The U47, certainly, could have been possible early on. Wonder if the Sony MIC was around ?

    biasing a 388 for 0db tape

They have to design a machine around a BIAS setting/s. 3M, and the like. could play fast 'n furious seemingly. I'll attach the last version of 3M specs that was in PDF form

    Need new smaller mixer

I'm learning onboard channel compression with synth inputs. I'll move to 0 as I start but easily end up -15. With the old Tascam, I'd rather have the channels doing the work, and, I'd just bring up the subs to set levels on the modestly set disk recorder inputs (or the 2-track). Always exceptions

    Need new smaller mixer

I worry less about the MASTER. The console is convenience, rather than straight wire purity. So, it is just the last section of noise

    Need new smaller mixer

Just plug a MIC in. Either way, the spec on the product page looks conventional - meaning not the good stuff, but worst case

    Need new smaller mixer

I don't have anything close to 24-channel, but I don't use the master section for anything. I'm still evaluating the new Behringer, but there is noise on the 2-buss out. I suspect I will be using my standard practice 4-buss for output

    biasing a 388 for 0db tape

There's a tube vid of a MRL vs ATR700. To me (hahahah), there should be a edge havin' track width on the tape heads Performance test Ampex ATR-700 Reel to Reel - YouTube

    biasing a 388 for 0db tape

I have no problem with a proper test tape. Not in everyone's budget, though. The good advice would be to leave the Tascam alone, as it is, probably, set-up and 457 ready to go (pot sweeping is regular maintenance). The dude was wanting to BIAS for consumer tape and I suggested straight out he...

How effective is room correction software?

For me, I don't, particularly, mind a little EQ. If you are looking at 5/6db and more, I think you have to work on a plan that makes EQ minimal and only on non critical areas. Distortion is whatever is not in the signal. Commonly, with speakers, smearing, etc.. A good will be more accurate, but...

How effective is room correction software?

Well, if you look at the sonarworks page, they don't even mention distortion

How effective is room correction software?

Room correction isn't about flat, it's about minimizing the room so you can hear what is going on. Still, the EQ tools can be useful. If you get a mid-hi boost from that wall or window, you can treat that, rather than use EQ. I wouldn't buy any software, but just run your own tests. That part...

    biasing a 388 for 0db tape

" In using the original tape, I'm hoping adjusting the bias pcb for 150mV as stated in the manual will work best. I don't see anything in the manual regarding using this particular tape stock so not sure why" If you want to mess around working on a tape that's out of production, I don't know if...
