how do you write your songs?

does anyone of you write songs a capella? unfortunately, without my guitar I seem to be lost, although I sometimes find some nice tunes on the piano too. I once read about Paul Simon's way of songwriting: he programs a drum computer in order to be inspired by a new rythm... do you know other...

Pop music, one big ol image

I would like to know how many groups, bands or whatsoever write their own stuff. The members of boy/girlie groups often appear as co-writers of their songs, but in my opinion that's just a trick to tell the audience: look at them, they can't just dance, jump around and sing a bit... they...

Creating a hit that will hook.

People must be able to sing the chorus ONCE they've heard it. The shouldn't be able to get it out of their minds again. They should hum it in the morning after waking up and in the evening before falling asleep (and during work, of course). That's it: a killer melody that gets stuck in the...

    The Dream.........Ever experienced it?

I whish I'd dream some nice tunes too... Tucci, you're definitely right. I think the most powerful melodies just consist of basically three or four notes, e.g. "Knocking on Heaven's Door", "Here Come's the Sun", verse of "Wonderwall", and many others, but you don't even realize that it's just...

    Famous, "stolen" songs???

a friend told me that there's some law about how much a new song can be equal to an existing one (about 4 measures can be similar or equal, I dunno!). Are there any specific laws, if yes, up to which grade is it legal to "borrow" some notes???

    Famous, "stolen" songs???

You know McFerrin's "Don't worry, be happy"? and "What's going on" (4Non Blondes)? Well, compare the melody of the verses... And isn't the verse-melody of "1999" from Prince similar to the one from "Manic Monday"? What do you think?
