Very New To This Recording Thing

Based on the minimal information you have given, I think you should return the focusrite and get a Mackie Blackjack. It is an affordable interface, and while it is limited to two inputs and two outputs, the ONYX preamps are very good pres and it has phantom power.

Desktop PC for new home studio; what do you suggest in the $500 range?

Core Duo processors are not supported by Mountain Lion (the most recent 64bit OS) Core 2 Duo processors are. CD does not support 64bit, C2D does. A G5 will run OSX Leopard, which will run 99% of the DAWs out there, the 1% is any DAW that requires a 64bit OS. Every OS after Leopard is...

Desktop PC for new home studio; what do you suggest in the $500 range?

You should be able to find a used/refurb macpro in the $500 range. If not I see tons of Powermac G5s on craigslist all the time for less than $200. Either one will do you more than well.

Just starting out and I have a few questions.

Not that it matters, but why does he require you to buy equipment and record him when he has his own studio? Why wouldn't he just have you record him in his studio with his equipment, while teaching you what you are doing?? Anyway, the monitors are for reviewing/mixing what you have recorded...

    A monitor problem PLS HELP

If they visually look ok, you are probably lucky. As far as testing with an mp3 player, start at no volume then work your way up to about 60% if there is an issue it will be evident far before that...

Using the same CC to start audio channels on each scene.. is this possible?

dunno if it's different on a windows machine, but if you hold down shift while you select which tracks to arm, you should be able to arm multiple tracks.

    Need Help with Acoustic Treatment

Mr. Reynolds, thanks so much for all your help!! And with my current material situation, you are saying I should build 4 corner bass traps (positioning TBD), 2 first reflection panels, and then 2 back wall panels. All at the dimensions you suggested of course. (or should I do the corner traps...

    Need Help with Acoustic Treatment

as far as the ceiling, are you saying it's not a huge priority to treat it, or that is the only place you would use 2" panels? I also forgot front wall treatment, would 16"h x room width (minus the front traps) @ 4" be good? and to clarify, are you saying the back wall panels (not corner...

    Need Help with Acoustic Treatment

Really? I thought that I 'frame' the outside with wood and then cover the front and back with fabric, wouldn't making a wooden backing defeat the purpose of the panels all together? (please pardon any ignorance)

    Need Help with Acoustic Treatment

Please tell me what would be ideal, I am looking for guidance. Please do keep in mind the size of the room... I can do whatever I want, so I would like to have the most ideal setup. Also, any suggestions on the wood to use for the framing to keep it light?
