Well, the poster doesn't seem to have evaluated many DAW. Maybe Fruity loops is the answer ?
What does one need to "compose" game tracks ? Decent GM instruments and some scoring ? The consumer version of Samplitude usually offers 20-23 VST/i "faces" - maybe some trend towards movie score the...
Well, it is hard to know how much electronics one needs for maintenance and 388 service without taking some stock of the evidence
Dumb-ass guitarists re-wire the pots all the time
There's is usually a bunch of used hi-speed duplicators on eBait. I'm just not that brave ! hahah
It is possible to beg, borrow, or, steal a good deck for the master. That alone would be a big improvement for the average dual well, because, often, the play side can do pretty well
Ya' can't beat the computer for editing and possibly making a whole different sounding album. Even doing this, the cassette stage can be quite tedious. On the dubbing deck, press one button and the 30-minute cassette is done in 15-minute.
This one in the photo would be "good enough". I know...
The, general, wisdom in USB has been 8, and add another 8. For me, that would be another rack preamp with digital converters.
Maybe, there is some design twilight zone where it's not really worth the effort to go beyond 12- channels on one set of converters
I 've had lucas electronics on my old bonneville : ) Not too long after that I was tuning bikes like that by the exhaust. The bonny was 2 into one pipes so that wouldn't work !

So, on initial inspection and testing, one finds the heads are not pristine. One has to decide how much time to waste : ) What level of sophistication might be possible ?
The stick/drive is another step, but it could suit the poster well enough. I would record to the stick just to avoid the computer : ) As it is, I have to turn on the computer just to USB power some things. ahah
I was gonna say digidick, but I'm not watching kids play around : ) There is a lot out there, and I check my on-line gear outlet regularly. That said, I last went with the Peavey vip-1 amp with pedal. I got my Tonelab ST for around $180 from a rouge eBay seller years ago.
It looks like the fone out is the only option. On the computer sound card, you should only have to insure that all the OS manipulation of signal is switched off
..."as I feared for the needles on the A3440 I RE-calibrated track One meter to under read by 20dB".
Makes sense to me ! hahahah
Ya, a lot of this last experiment deserves a sharp ear, but I doubt the oxides are giving the OP a fair shake either.
Peen in some alignment marks and get those...
