I mean that is the snapshot of when the machine was taken out of service. They are marginal, for sure. The peak is missing from wear to the extent debris will collect there as there is no correct tape contact
I see a lot more than that. The wear looks pretty even, though. You might luck into some odd=ball heads that would work - and home re-laping is an option. The day I discovered sticky was with some Agfa and the whole machine ground to a halt. I keep meaning to add, clean the whole tape path - not...
I think I had been on Mandrake for awhile when I did the compile - exercise . Seems I just did a copy and paste at each prompt.
Well, It used to be packages was up front
I've been under the impression that I would have to spend time dialing in the fizz and that was all it took for me to avoid sims, generally. Maybe, gain stage amp modules ?
Ya, you can "make" some optimizations. I guess that is ( freely tossing words) compiling kernel ??
I do the dual boot have found that the modern install can be pretty flaky. The Multi-Media distros are full of audio, video, etc.

Ya, I just try and mix with the console tools
Multi-track tape. I love the same in disk recorders. Just ask him to provide a PIC of the heads. Sellers with good heads will usually make that their #1 selling point. It is also true that the seller may have no idea what a head is.
None of that stuff is, really, worth consideration unless you have evaluated the heads. I, generally, stay away from multi-track tape ( doesn't mean I don't want them all). I look though the offerings and one day an Angel appeared and said; "recent new heads". $100 + $41.70 ship
They will still work, you just have to understand the weaknesses in speakers. My big boxes from 1970 are ported and I hear the bass step off the cliff around 45Hz. But with the 12" woofer, YoYo Ma and his Solo Bach sound effortless
