    Kiss Me (again)

"My complaint here is that if you wanted to cover this song you should have ignored the original more..." Ditto that. I thought it was the original for a while.... I thought the singer did a good job, too.

    Old Swing Thing

SoundClick artist: Jeff Maher - page with MP3 music downloads Tried for Benny '38. Not quite. I was supposed to have a real drummer ....didn't show. Did 'em myself. Meh. Vocal version coming. The head is supposed to be clarinet. Can't do it myself, so guit has to do. Charlie Christian...

    Lies

Yo! That was the best fit for your voice and style I ever heard. I really like the arrangement....up, down, thick, thin. A lot of power in the lines...unison and divergence; texture and dynamics......musical sentences. Great. One nit: the sky-kissing guitar solo feature near the end is...

    Afraid of me

Good song; good sounds. I like the mix as-is...except that the congas are too in front of the rest. MHO

    First Organic Recording

Ah! Yes....the bass has been tamed. Using an off axis position to dampen the transient coming out of the F hole. That box shakes the house! And, yeah, the metronome was something I heard once , listening real loud, and forgot about at mastering time: it's a little below my freq threshold...

    First Organic Recording

Thanks. Really hoping some real fiddler will volunteer a likkedy track for me. No other instrument can make it happen, I think. The upright bass in a Floria Carpathian from Romania. Real maple n' spruce. I flattened the neck...jazz style...and used a little Audix small diaphragm clip-on to...

    First Organic Recording

First all-real recording. A bluegrassy thing. Any serious fiddler here who wants to make it real good with an experienced bow hand? 44/16. dazzle me. The damn thang ain't got no frets. Toughest instrument I ever tried to learn. A month isn't long enough to make it sing. Brushed drums...

    a new tack

Thank you much, Greg. And everybody. Should be an interesting year.

    a new tack

I think it might be because I'm not hittin it with snap...or steadily in the center. I need a few lessons on basic technique...and more reading-up on stuff 'bout drums. Steep curve. I'm set up in a little room where I record vocals. I reckon drum rooms need a lot more dampening. More...

    a new tack

Been a while trying the on-site upload....stand by OK...it works. So I have a real Ludwig drum kit set up. Four mic's: overhead KSM27's; 58 snare; 57 bass. Tuned them up yesterday; set up the mics I had following a few tutorials; sub-mixer into the board. No firewire of some such...so...

Bad-ass funk tune with full horn section!

"except this kind of song needs a burning sax ride or keyboard ride of some kind at some point" {Bob} Yep It's a great recording. Like the bassguy's sound a lot. Only other thing it's missing is 'verve' ... the horns sound a little lazy....like it's the end of a 12 hour session...beyond...

Second song for my first album (radio ready?) - Please critique - Alt. Rock

The recording is nice...I'll ditto the other comments about squish n' stuff. But the arrangement has some weaknesses....ambiguous progression...indefinite bass movement [the notes below E on the 5 stringer don't sound so clear moving scale-wise...weak rootage...much stronger and defined moving...

    "Maybe"

I like it a lot. Lots of interest; and a moving, changing set of ideas. Mebbe a tad overcompressed....too homoginized? Too squished? Good playing.

'Nother PoeticIntensity Original - Taking Gerg's Advice...

Ja, mon: Kinda split the diff? Sounds better to me. Might be later this week...or next: the student who borrowed my guitar cancelled his lesson...hope he brings it soon. And I got a humpin' schedule until, like, two weeks from now. And I'm backpacking on a weak satlink from a...

'Nother PoeticIntensity Original - Taking Gerg's Advice...

Actually, just before reading the last post...still listening...I wuz thinkin' that the L&R guits could use a boost in the tinfoil range.....I gotta 'gree w/ Gerg. But I don't hear mud-inducing slop; I thinks a little EQ voodoo will crisp 'em up?? And....ah yes....my acoustic was tuned...

'Nother PoeticIntensity Original - Taking Gerg's Advice...

The low end is so insense I swore, before listening and playing along, that it was a step down in D...with everything de-tuned! The new mix is fuller...and seems like it has a lot less room for improvement. I'll keep listening. Sounds good. "Thugga thugga" Can you sing cycle 2 of the...

I just noticed your invite to submit a track. I'll have my electric back monday. Got the updated mix on the platform. If I can do it justice, midweek I'll send it at you.

'Nother PoeticIntensity Original - Taking Gerg's Advice...

SRV chop is just a way of describing what SRV did on , say, Bowie's 'China Girl: big, meaty punctuated chord chops that fit the grid layed down by the bass and drums...sometimes reinforcing the beat, sometimes placing a beat between the foundational grid....a bit of conversation. Theme...

    Prepare to be flatulated!

I listened loud. I like the raw edge to it. I enjoyed the sound...whatever weaknesses others find in the drums or whatever. It had clang and bash. And that's valuable.
