    Home Recorded Songs

welcome to the forum dave. Your stuff sounds like it was recorded pretty decently, frankly. It did sound a little dry to my ears (lack of reverb). Nice harmonies, decent lyrics. Is this what country music is like in UK? keys were a little intrusive at times, i'd definitely back off on those and...

Your thoughts? This one's called "Statutory"

stick a fork in it. nice groove and noise, vocal fits nice, but might have a tad too much bass in the vocal itself. Is that actual drums ? cheers C.

Daigle Street Blues complete at last...

i'll take a shot. I agree, the vocals were a little lost in the mix. The overall level was low. I might be hearing things because harmony wavers out of key, and the guitars may not be completely in tune. Drums are the best thing about it, to my ears. (I find them quite nice, actually). cheers C.

The costs to build a studio....

hey recon, if you can afford the time, 50K ought to see a really nice set up. Especially if it is at your house, and you do a lot of the construction yourself. I guesstimate a year of research on this and simliar forums + books recommended by the folks here, + 6 months to a year of thorough...

Need help pimping a wardrobe with absorption and isolation

Hey Mad, nice if you and Rick can work it out, he does have a lot of knowledge to share. I'll share a little as well, Rick can go into more depth but here it is in nutshell: soundproofing = isolation high frequency isolation = airtightness low frequency isolation = mass + airtightness If your...

What about acoustic tile wrapped in fabric?

the facing is plastic sheet, it pulls right off. if you leave it on it will just reflect sound. I have different size boxes with either 4 or 2 inches of these contained in them. C.

What about acoustic tile wrapped in fabric?

hey undergrnd - suspended ceiling tiles that are made of condensed fiberglass are nearly the same thing as OC703; they are readily available, and if you peel off the facing, you can stack them to whatever thickness you desire. I used 6 boxes in my litle pocket studio. You can even take the...

    does styrofoam do anything

Don't use it for anything, it's a fire hazard and does not absorb sound. C.

    glass-bricks for soundproofing?

I am not an engineer, but some practical experience with this. glass blocks = concrete blocks as far as sound proofing. Pretty Good. as far as diffraction inside the space, I don't believe textured glass blockswill make any real-world difference. C.

question about treatment in a basment

Hey Flyer, we're talking about rolls of pink R-36 insulation as found at Home Depot. I don't think it is even 35$ a roll...... nothing fancy, just the minimum thing you can do to make your space a little happier with recording. How long are you renting for? a year? C.

General advice for people wishing to set up home project studio?

you're kidding, of course....... aren't you? Rigid fiberglass insulation is a primary source for sound absorption - as discussed here (homerecording) thousands of times, and on a variety of other web sites. I have to assume you are kidding with your comment. C.

General advice for people wishing to set up home project studio?

here's something I've not seen discussed. Lots of people have trouble finding owens-corning 703 rigid fiberglass to build absorption panels/bass traps. EVERY home depot/lowes/menards etc carries acoustic ceiling tiles made out of rigid fiberglass. (you can tell, the backs of them are...

    Am I kidding myself here?

you do not have a problem. having it all in one space is fine & dandy. I'm one of the people that would like to have as much room as you do. It's not a horrible arrangement, by any means. The upside - everything is in one room and can be touched easily. The downside is you have to wear earplugs...

Please give me some treatment ideas.......pretty please

everything gets graded, sometimes I pass along the results. :) I don't know how much time Greg_L has wrapped up in this, bu I suspect he is just getting started....... This might be worse than owning a boat, since you canworry about it and work on ti anytime you feel like. Party? No Party, just...

Please give me some treatment ideas.......pretty please

you're welcome Greg. Grammar Nazi alert - it's "grommet", not "gromit". You must have digital drums, or just a smaller kit for that to work. Mine is a 5 piece, w/ 2 cymbal stands - it takes up soooooo much frickin real estate. one day, I will have a much larger space. cheers C.

Please give me some treatment ideas.......pretty please

hi Greg, I have a little (11' X 11') pocket studio. I have acoustic drums, a 1 X12 guitar amp, a 1 X15 bass amp, a 21" CRT & PC, a 16 channel mixer going into 2 motu 2408's. I also have 10-14 mics hooked up, and three or four mic stands, the res of the mics are hanging off of amps, the ceiling...
