For Sale:Portable Pro Recording Equip..Sony, Tascam, Grace, Benchmrk, Preamp, AD, DAT

I've been looking for a Grace Lunatec V2 since I had the pleasure of using one at work. Just a beautiful, solid, clean little machine that does exactly what it's supposed to. Sadly, I'm not in a position to jump on this right now :( , but I'll give you a bump for an excellent piece of gear.

    First Voice-Over Session (advice/tips?)

Oh yeah..the pace thing. I may have forgotten to mention that I'm usually taking an actor every 10-20 minutes, in which time the actor can be reading anywhere between 1-10 individual pieces (a TV commercial, radio commercial, a couple of animation roles, maybe a promo or narration or...

    First Voice-Over Session (advice/tips?)

SoundForge hasn't changed much, but the new version will allow for multi-tracking, which I seldom need, but is handy now and again - and makes the need to learn (and invest in) ProTools less likely for me at this point in my life. I can see why the RE20 would be an attractive alternative to an...

    First Voice-Over Session (advice/tips?)

I've had clients drop noisy track pants, or strip off loud shirts. I think the 416 probably started being used for matching sound in ADR, and somehow stuck around for other VO work as well. There are other shotguns that will work as well (I just personally sold off a Beyerdynamic CS 86...

    First Voice-Over Session (advice/tips?)

Not sure how the 416 started getting used for VO, but it gets used a LOT. Not everyone loves it, though - the amazingly talented voice actor Corey Burton despises the mic, and has a long rant about how much he hates it for VO, and why, posted on his website. It is very good at not picking up...

    First Voice-Over Session (advice/tips?)

I work in the VO industry, recording auditions for a top talent agency in Los Angeles, and many of those auditions are lifted directly to air. I'll second the advice that Southside gave about asking if they have any preferences, etc., and also share my experience (which may or may not relate to...

    Porta-Booth Worth It?

I'm not familiar with any of Harlan Hogan's VO work, but he's a busy little marketer, no doubt about it. Most VOs that I hear recorded in these sound just like a microphone sitting in a foamy little box - somewhat better than an echoey empty room, but not great by any means.

    tascam 244

I have one (along with original instruction manual) that needs work to be functional, that I'd love to sell, but it would probably cost more to ship than it's worth. Can't bear to just throw it out, though. What to do? Anyone in the LA area looking for a fixer-upper? :o

Great V/O condenser mic for $250: Rode NT-1 or others??

In my work in the VO industry in L.A., the standard mics used in working studios are the Sennheiser 416 shotgun, and the Neumann U87 LDC. I see the RE-20 and SM7 dynamic mics are used a lot in radio, but see them less often in a full-time, dedicated VO studio. As far as LDCs go, you may have to...

    Voice Over Work

I hear people with awesome voices all day long. Most of them don't work much. The ones that do, usually have strong acting or improv chops. In my opinion, dude would be better served at this point by sharpening his interpretation skills, rather than dropping money into making a demo that will...

VO studio setup: Right or Wrong? What say YOU?

I work in the VO industry, at a high-profile talent agency. We have the same booth in addition to our two recording rooms, which we use for ISDN work, and would suggest possibly adding some bass traps to the booth (especially in at least one corner); and if you can get a Sennheiser 416, that...
