    drunk last night

Very very nice. I like the guitar sound, but I agree with the folk who reckon it should morph into a slightly brighter sound through the track. I'd also slightly cut the low-mids - it's borderline boomy just now. I want your voice. Can you buy it in cans? I love the lo-fi feel. I think the...

    New song - comments welcome.

Macle - thanks very much, it means a lot to me. I think I'm going to re-record the solo on the acoustic, and see how that sounds. jcmm - thanks, particularly re the singing. I need all the confidence boosting I can get! ;) And I totally agree about the need for percussion. Fortunately, it...

    New song - comments welcome.

Wow. Thank you all for responding so quickly, and saying such nice things. SLuiCe - Glad you like the acoustic sound. It's a Superlux CM-H8A condenser mic. I agree about the overuse of the reverse reverb. I swithered before putting up this version, but now I'm sure - I'll take some of it...

    A Sad One

Very nice Chris. Excellent vocal as usual. Definitely subtle percussion required, definitely not drums. Female BVs would be very nice. Steel guitar was also a good suggestion. I initially thought your strummed acoustics were slightly "dead" sounding, but I found the whole mix sounded a lot...

    New song - comments welcome.

Hi all Here's my new track, "More Than This". It's not a Bryan Ferry cover. http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1715&alid=-1 I'd be very grateful for comments on any and all aspects: song writing, performance, recording, mixing, etc. Cheers AB

    Speaking of sucking...

Macle (and Kramer) - thank you very much for putting up some more tunes. I'm downloading them as I type this. I'm mixing my new tune today, but I'll listen to your songs and PM you some comments some time this week. I really appreciate the effort. Cheers AB

Macle - I've only got a couple of yours - This Sucks and Got Love. They're both excellent. I'd really like to hear the rest. Could you email them to me or something? alastairbishop@yahoo.com Thanks in advance AB

    Listen, Please

Excellent, as usual. Your writing is superb, and your singing and playing are pretty damn good. Criticisms? All I can come up with is that the acoustic guitar is slightly boomy - a wee bit of EQ would help. I'm assuming the vocals from 2:17 on are meant to be slightly buried? I'll be buying...

    Collaborations, a discussion on logistics

Here's a couple of random musings. 1. The click at an agreed time point is a great idea. You could even have one click near the beginning, and another at a later agreed point, after the tune has finished. The first click could be lined up to make sure the tracks all start at the same time...

    warning! experimental hillbilly orchestration!

I really liked this. Nice loose feel. It sounds a lot like the theme tune to an old British kids' programme from my childhood (Camberwick Green or Trumpton, I can't remember which). Put it through Izotope Vinyl and it'd fit nicely on the soundtrack from "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" Nice.

Too derivative. Total sell out. ;)

Great stuff macle. Good tune, excellent vocal arrangement. Superb vocal performance from your girlfriend. I really like the grittiness, and the SSSSS's. The woo-hoos were funny, especially because you only did them once. 1:00 is very cool. "Get a clue" around 2:14 is great. So is "all we...

    Creed, You Suck

Good song, nice vocal arrangement. The vocal tracks need a bit of tidying up, but I know you said it's a rough. By the way, who are Creed? AB

finally, some recordings from my new equipment!!

I'm just an amateur, but for what it's worth: Turn the vocals up :) The low end is a bit muddy. Definitely roll off the lows on the "chugging" guitars - they're a bit boomy just now, and clash with the bass and kick. Also, the kick is a bit too boomy, and is overlapping with the bass. Try...

    comments please

This has gone straight into my "keepers" folder. I LOVE this song. Very cool, laid back, stunner of a tune, brilliantly weird vocal stuff. And the lead vocal is just magnificent. The intonation isn't always perfect, but personally I would keep it exactly as it is. Uru kind of "orbits" the...

I need some help with eq of low end on a new one

Hi gonzo-x Health warning - I'm an amateur, so any or all of what follows could be misguided or even dangerous ;) I like the song, and I'd love to hear your voice a bit more "up front". But that wasn't what you asked. Overall, the mix has a bit too much going on around 50-200Hz, and again...

    Hillbilly Got A 'LECTRIC GIT'FIDDLE

Hi Chris I'm late to the party - hope everyone hasn't gone home! First - superb singing. You really have an excellent voice, and the screaming bit is very cool - nice and raw, but controlled just enough, and still bang-on for pitch. How do you do that? Songwriting - good, but not my...

PEOPLE - Give Credit Where It's Due

Hi Chris Sorry to buck the trend, but after another of my famously careful listens, I think you've overdone it with the cowbell. The basic track is fine, but there's something wrong with the sound. Maybe roll off below about 80kHz? Also, you've gone too far with the effects - keep it simple...

    Lost At Sea again...

This is so much better than the first mix. When I first heard this, it didn't do anything for me, but I really like this version. Good writing, and some very nice harmony ideas. Love the piano, and it's good to hear the recorder take its rightful place in the rock and roll armoury. Or...
