    Recording Drums

in my experience i have always recorded as loud as possible before clipping. you can always turn the fader down in the mix, but you can't always go up enough (i found myself using ultramaximiser alot). when setting a level just whack the drums harder than your ever gonna when playing the song...

    is there a way

you need to use bounce downs really on a four track to get that much on there. i used to use them alot when i was on four tracks. obviously it won't really help in this instance with you wanting a stereo mix and with your tracks already full. no point in me posting really. sorry. but hey sound...

Let's Break It Down: How Many CDs Have You Sold?

not many at all really. a couple hundred sold in a couple a years. self release with no real promotion. only done about five gigs in that time, and usually feel too ashamed to plug it after a performance. :P got label backing for the second album though so hopefully we will do alot better this...

    a song by my band

not much care is taken in the recording or mixing process really, apart from leaving coughs in, as we are into the whole low-fi thing. bit tell us what you think anyway. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=5162404 (the top one)

I need to start off my RACK! Where should I start?

im in the same boat mate just starting off. i do have one effects unit. a zoom rfx 1000. it was really cheap and sounds great, in my opinion better than a lot of expensive overrated ones. especially for reverbs. i wouldn't buy a cheap pre-amp, i got a m-audio dmp3 and it was ok for what i needed...

Whats your favourite manufacturer of Reel to Reel Machine

mine is fostex. wait wait... leave me alone. i am very fond of the little guys i am on my third fostex now, and being a low-fi admirer i guess i prefer it not to sound so pro. 1. X-26 i think it was. 2. FD-4 which i just gave away to my friend, who moved to bristol. 3. E-16 which i am hoping...

    fostex e16

ok, thanks so much beck. im onto it straight away. i don't suppose you know of any sites/books that could teach me how to set the darn thing up (the only manual i can find is a very distorted file of a photocopy, with pages missing). i mean i don't class myself as particulary clever, but this...

It’s Official – Quantegy Will Be Gone

damn, bad time to spend alot of money to get into this reel to reel malarkey then i guess. also became a registered member of the quantegy site a few days ago, processed order to the point when it told me the cost of postage (im in the UK), which was rather scary.

    fostex e16

hi, i am judging it from the counter which half real time. (and a little experiment with tape and markers). as i say i just got it and i have 2 tapes. an old ampex 456 which doesn't work, i guess its wrecked. and a newer ('professionally erased' apparently) quantegy 456, also second hand. could...
