in my experience i have always recorded as loud as possible before clipping. you can always turn the fader down in the mix, but you can't always go up enough (i found myself using ultramaximiser alot). when setting a level just whack the drums harder than your ever gonna when playing the song...

you need to use bounce downs really on a four track to get that much on there. i used to use them alot when i was on four tracks. obviously it won't really help in this instance with you wanting a stereo mix and with your tracks already full. no point in me posting really. sorry. but hey sound...

not many at all really. a couple hundred sold in a couple a years. self release with no real promotion. only done about five gigs in that time, and usually feel too ashamed to plug it after a performance. :P got label backing for the second album though so hopefully we will do alot better this...

im in the same boat mate just starting off. i do have one effects unit. a zoom rfx 1000. it was really cheap and sounds great, in my opinion better than a lot of expensive overrated ones. especially for reverbs. i wouldn't buy a cheap pre-amp, i got a m-audio dmp3 and it was ok for what i needed...
