Say a typical R Kelly song. Are you familar with his stuff? If not, any of these R&B tracks you hear on radio these days. I'm basically trying to find out how I make my songs sound more professional as the vocals sound too 'honest' at the moment. I know that is a good thing but i'm looking for...
Anyone give me pointers on how to achieve that smooth vocal treatment you hear on R&B tracks? Basically, I mean what effects do they use, what dynamics, etc?
Thanks for the response. Sorry to sound green but what do you mean by connect to the chasis? The pre-amp has no earth terminal so do you mean connect it to the body of the pre-amp. If so, are we talking about using sticky tape or something?
Can anybody please tell me how I can earth a turntable. I am trying to connect a turntable to a midi system which only has an auxilliary input. I have purc hased a phon pre-amp which boosts the signal okay but the problem is that I am getting a hum due to lack of earthing. Because I am not...
Thanks, that's what I use as well. Any other stuff apart from what i've mentioned? It's just I think my vocals are sounding cheap while the music sounds good enough.
Some reverb, compression, probably a little delay, probably autotune, what else can I do to make the vocals sound good on my mixes?
Also what type of reverb would be recommended for a middle to uptempo Soul/R&B track?
Thanks, i've got the manual and doing the connections just as you've said, it could be a problem with the talkbox. Except i'm not using the right type of amp. The manual doesn't mention amp specifications.
Thanks, I have all the instructions tec and think I am connecting up okay but I just can not get anything out when I try to use it. I suspect it could be the amp. Can you tell me what type of amplification set up you use please?
Does anyone know how to connect a Heil Talkbox? I'm stumped, just can't get the sound out using it with my guitar. Just need some advice on basic connections and what is actually required.

Thanks a lot man. I guess the next risk is finding a cpmetent mastering suite/engineer. The prices for those places vary so much that you start to wonder what the difference is.
I am running ProTools LE with an Akai S3000 sampler. The problem I am getting is that say I put 2 different toms on the same channel (Midi), when I go into the mix to reduce the volume of one of them, the other one reduces accordingly.
Is there a way in which I can change the volume of one of...
Thanks all, i've solved the problem! My mixer is a digital one and I was routing back tape returns digitally but found that the inserts do not work on digital channels, only analog mic/line channels.
So what I have done for the vocal track is take it back from the souncard to tyhe mixer via...
Thanks guys. Thing is i'm mixing at the moment and comparing the mix to commercial cd's as I progress. I find that I can get close enough with pads, gtrs, even vocals.
However my bass and drum combination just can not seem to come anywhere close, the cd's sound like they're coming out wide...
I'm in the process of mixing down and trying to get a big sound. I know that the bass drums, snare and bass guitar should be dead centre.
What I was wondering was whether these should be on individual mono or stereo tracks. i.e., e.g. can I put the bass drum on two separate channels dead...
It appears it could be the mixer settings. As a check, is it possible to plug say, headphones into the insert and expect to hear any audio coming through if everything was working properly? Or is the type of signal coming through the insert not able to be heard on headphones?
