I have a Fostex MR-8 which I have had for 3 years. Very easy to use and gives very respectable recordings.

I used to do it your way but I kept getting frustrated by lack of decent eq on the MR8. Now I record to the highedt levels on the mr8 (not clipping) and then mix it on ntracks. As I used to mix everything on the MR8 and often I used more than 8 tracks I was continually bouncing back and forth...

I use IMToo.... I also use that to convert mp3s to Wavs which I then load onto the MR8 and play along with them.

All good points. I have had the original MR-8 for over 2 years and I think it is great. Mind you I am only part of a duo and I have a drum machine. I think the 2 inputs would be quite limiting if recording drums. Doesn't the HD version have 4 inputs?
