    Cassette-only "record" labels

Nothing wrong whith cassette's, played through a well maintained machine sound great and can sound even better than the CD. Obviously CD is better quality and a lot more practical to use. I had the same Who recording on Tape and on CD, the tape was better. I transferred one of my old 4 track...

    Using & Storing Cables

Why not get a lot of different colour sticky tape and color code the ends of the cables so you know which type is which. I put most of them in a box and the ones I tend to use I hang near where Im working. Depends on how you record, the more different ways the more likely you will have a...

    Holy Cow! PAIA Synthespin

Only if you are a collector? If I did have a choice over a new digital or a new analog synth I probably would go for the analog or just settle whith the computer which is digital anyway. These digital synth's are just playback machines in a very nice stylish box? Im sure they could make...

Tascam M-2516.......what am I doing wrong?

I think patching guitar pedal's through the aux send and receive might need some impedance matching. For example, an impedance matching plug or a reamping device for aux send and a DI box for aux receive.

    Cheap analogue mixing desks?

Its brand new too:D. Looks like no tone controls, but then again its signal to noise figures should be good I think. Honestly a behringer mixer probably be better value? It depends on the final asking price I guess?

How often to clean tape path?

I think depends on what you use your machine for. I only use my machines for mastering and nothing else. I make sure tape path is clean before each side I record or play, and after Iv finnished. Long as tape lasts for transfer to computer Im happy. Not all tape is good, but if its in the...

    1997 Analog Recording Articles

thanks:D that was a good read Have you ever noticed whith the multi track cassette's they allways give you a range, even though all you probably only need is just a rack unit whith straight line-in's and outs. I guess they are trying to maximise profits, by adding features that you may not want...

unbalance to balanced and balanced to unbalanced

I thought this topic deserves a thread in its own right. Now I have various bits and pieces of unbalanced and balanced stuff and Im wondering about the best match between them, such as some type of converter. Far as I can see so far consumer grade unbalance equipment is -10dbv and the...

how come non-exposed pots get dirty?

Curious about this. How come mixer pots get dirty when they are not exposed? Of course the mixer sliders are exposed to dirt or whatever. How do you know the EQ knob is dirty? I suppose cleaning knobs would require mixer to be completely dismantled?

How to use a "pancake" of tape?

Iv done and it worked. You need 2 empty spare reels and it a bit of guess work to stop at half way. As I remember the pancake had that packing white foam stuff? on top and bottom. You take the top one off. Then push the bottom of the pancake on top of the turntable so the turntable center...

    VHS multitrack

Whith all those VHS factories and machinery, might be an idea for them to bring one out, since the technology is in decline? I think I remember reading about a VHS multi track recorder in the mid 1980's. It was in an english music mag I think which had Bob Moog as one of the writers. I think it...
