    I'm building a new guitar

One Fender bass I rebuilt for a guy in the 70s, I used spray can polyurethane. Every now and then, I'd have to clean or replace the nozzles. 15-17 coats I believe. I did it the way he wanted. Personally, I would have used 4-5 coats. Always put clear over sunbursts. Sanding between...

Tascam 388 - Reel Motor / Set Screws

According to that drawing, the set screws attach the reel table to the motor shaft. To gain access, you have to do it from behind the plate. There must be just enough room from behind. RtoRs are notorious for tight access. Another reason why I love em.

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

An electric guitar? When did that happen? I imagine it would cost quite a bit; if one used a switch, pickup, input thingy, sirens, and flashing lights. Would probably need to have a way of making it louder, maybe they'll design an output device; which may add to the cost of...

Does a new pinch roller is supposed to be flat or with an arc ?

I don't have a ton of recorders, but I'd say flat all the way. You can true the rubber up using a lathe and a toolpost grinder.

    9-42 for Drop D

If anyone has a guitar that cannot be tuned down to a drop "D", it's time to get a better made guitar. Or, learn to adjust for compensation.;)

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

Once you build a few guitars, you'll find that they all are overpriced. Not much to them. No mystery. Just another tool. Nothing to be feared, or revered.:thumbs up:

Sony TC-277-4: Powers on, won't spin!

Or, you can also turn on the power, and push up on the switch by hand. Should then be able to hear the motor.

    1 track analogue recordings

Just a note about the double JVC I posted.: JVC DOUBLE CASSETTE STEREO DECK MODEL TD-W354BK | eBay When I left my RtoRs alone, I started making multitracks using this same JVCdeck. Play along and record a track from one deck to the other. After buying the 424MKII, made it much easier.

    1 track analogue recordings

Before I started dabbling in digital-Reaper; I used the combination of a 424MKII, and this JVC double decker: JVC DOUBLE CASSETTE STEREO DECK MODEL TD-W354BK | eBay And since I'm having trouble using Reaper/Vista combo; I'm setting my Analog system back up using these two combos. All I...

    My recordings from a 388.

I really liked everything I heard, and I don't think you overdone Zep. That is what the Country needs, a revival of sounds from the past...yaknow, back when good music was being published.;):guitar::guitar:

Sony TC-277-4: Powers on, won't spin!

The first thing I do is tear them apart and check that the motor is spinning. It could be several things.

    Recording to cassette tape question(s)

I never tried to find out the brand name, I know they hold up pretty well. Better than some of my old reels from the 60s.

    Recording to cassette tape question(s)

Fruscayerdrix, welcome to the Analog den! Something else you may want to check out is "Musicians Friend" catalog for Type II cassettes. Years ago, I bought a few 10 packs of 15 minute tapes. You can easily fit one or two songs per tape....taping on A side only. Cheaper buying bulk. Go with...

How to clean a guitar speaker?

Not dust, but moisture. While traveling, our speakers went from hot to cold/then cold to hot many, many, times a week. Didn't hurt them a bit, they are designed for such scenarios. In a perfect world, it's a good idea to let them warm up slowly. Don't fret about a little dust.

    Guitars on the Prairies.

Yep, that's about it. It's a good thing that bands never do a tour without highly expensive humidity trucks to keep their guitars fresh. You know what humidity does to a guitar. I've had them literally fly to pieces just going out on the porch to play on a hot afternoon. It gets quite expensive...
