    I AM DUMB!

You can line out to one of the PA's channel inputs, but it might not sound the way you want it to. If you have a mic like an SM-57, you can mic the amp into the PA, which I think will probably sound better. For me the mic sounds best when placed up against the amps grill, offcenter by an inch or...

hooking up fx unit to MD8

Yes! The Aux. Sends are normal 1/4 phone plugs not 1/4 TRS. The TRS Y plug can be used in the inserts on Channels 1 or 2 which can loop through a compressor and back to the MD8 mixer through the same TRS plug. Thanks Green Hornet for the confirmation and the hip bone's connected to the back bone...

hooking up fx unit to MD8

I think they can be used as stereo outs to a 2 channel effects processor since they can be directed back to the stereo bus through the 9-10 or 11-12 channel inputs. I'm new at this and haven't gotten to that part of recording and mixdown yet, so I'm kind of guessing.

    Please...some suggestions

The Zoom 234 ($225.00 +/-) will do both bass and drums. It has 4 tracks, 3 for drums and 1 for bass. Can be played on the fly or in increments for precise arrangements. The drum sounds are very good the bass sounds are ok. Lots of kits and sounds to chose from. Unit could use more capacity for...

hooking up fx unit to MD8

Use the Auxiliary Send to go to the inputs of the Virtualizer and go back into Channels 9-10 or 11-12 (Page 84 of the manual)

MD8 users: Compressors and Effects Processors - What do YOU use?

Well....I went down to my local Mars and picked up a DBX 266XL. I ran my stage mic (Audio Technica 105-HE) thru it and into a Peavey XR-684 and started turning knobs. It took out all the noise of the PA and smoothed out my vocals and gave them some warmth and punch. I haven't tried any recording...

MD8 users: Compressors and Effects Processors - What do YOU use?

Thanks for the input and advice. The suggestions that have been mentioned are in the right price range. Too many choices :). I've had the MD8 for only a couple of weeks and haven't had chance to sit down and do any extensive recording with it. Mostly sampling a few instruments to see how they...

Which ones do you like? What's a good bang for the buck?

    Any suggestions on mic amping...

Do you have a Powered Mixer to plug into and line out into the Sony? Give the bass amp a try. I don't think it can hurt anything.

What's the best way or ways to go from mini disk to to CD or MP3 or RA? If I record from MD8 into a computer, what is the best format to use? Wav? And then Wav into something a CD burner can use? This is a part of recording I havn't gotten into yet and I don't know much about the details...

Thanks for the info on the little idiosyncrises of the MD8. I think I'd better move the unit further away from the speakers just in case. I noticed that "press the stop button more than once" thing when I was recording the other night. I picked up some TDK data disks at Mars for $12.99 after I...

Last night and this afternoon I recorded a few samples of my homemade tele straight in to the MD-8, thru a Peavey Classic 30's line out w/ reverb and mic'd with an SM-57 w/ reverb. Staight in sounded clean but thin and twangy, line out was hotter and warmer, mic'd sounded even more warmer but...

Another MD-8 user joins the group

Hello everyone! I've now entered the world of Multitrack Mini-disk recording. I picked up a used Yamaha MD-8 over the weekend and I'm looking forward to trying it out tonight. I had narrowed my choices down to the Fostex VF-16 and the MD-8. A friend was selling his MD-8 at a good price so I...

VF16 finally seen and heard. IMPRESSIVE!

I'm interested in the VF-12 too. It may be my first venture into home recording. I emailed Fostex about the use of inputs and how many channels could be recorded at once into the tracks. They said that the analog inputs A-H could be assigned to tracks 1-8 or 9-16 (default). If an ADAT interface...

    MK II 5+6

I'm curious as towhether or not plugging one lead guitar into 5 and another lead guitar into 6 will work and give a good sound.
