Predictions for the Future of Audio

How about upsampled audio? The ability to convert a 44.1kHz file to 96kHz, as if it were always 96kHz. Or even mp3 compression, to convert a 128kbps mp3 file to 320kbps and actually improve quality. That'd be pretty cool :)

I reckon that if I had posted the exact same thread in The Cave, this thread would be an already 20-page long pissup between the usual contenders. ...damn...

Predictions for the Future of Audio

I just got thinkin' there of what kind of stuff we'll be able to do with audio in the next 10-20 years. I'm sure back in the 60's, the thoughts of the capabilities we have today with digital audio would have been unthinkable. Autotune? Beat-detective? Amp simulators? Pfft. I have a feeling...

    Noisegate in vocal recording

Whether using it for the "regular" use, or as an effect, I still can't see why you wouldn't use it after tape. Headphones? Use a monitor insert. I can't see any benefits of using it while recording. Although I'm nearly positive I had a long debate with somebody here recently for the same...

External Harddrives and Pro Tools Le 8

Don't need to, already have a HFS drive for when I'm workin on the mac, and I have a few internal drives in the PC. Although I guess that coulda been useful a while back  Jeez, I'm feeling kinda nerdy... I'm gonna go out and sniff cocaine off a prostitutes ass :D

External Harddrives and Pro Tools Le 8

So, you can open a session from a FAT32 drive? Every time I've tried that in the past, it tells me that the volume is set to Transfer or something, and that I need to change it to Record, or Write or somethin... Then, it won't let me change it, and won't open the session. And I've never had a...

External Harddrives and Pro Tools Le 8

Isn't FAT32 supposed to have a slower transfer rate? Or am I mixing that up with something else? Also, Austin, do you use Pro Tools? I'm not sure about other DAWs, but Pro Tools won't let you run a session off a drive that's formatted as FAT32.

Actually, using Terminal, Macfuse, and NTFS3G, you can read and write NTFS on Leopard too. Just set it up the other night with a lot of headaches. I'm not sure about older Mac OS. And for Windows, there's software called "MacDrive" that allows you to read and write HFS. I got the trial of it a...

Mastering One Song? FACT OR FICTION

You can master one song. IMO, any processing you put on the 2-track, at the end of the day, is mastering. It doesn't have to be in relation to anything else.

    Volume faders and busses/aux inputs

If you turn up the track volume fader, the volume of the track goes up and so does the level going to the bus (because it's post fader), relatively. Then, you can use the individual tracks bus send to send MORE/LESS of that signal to the bus. THEN, you can set up a master fader, and change the...

External Harddrives and Pro Tools Le 8

If you're going to be transferring files between mac and windows however, make a partition on the external and format it as FAT32, so that both systems can read and write to it. However, you won't (or shouldn't) be able to run a session off the FAT32 partition, so you'd be running the sessions...

    Partitioning Macintosh HD

I actually just gave the same advice AND reasoning behind it to someone else :p But cheers :) As for the question asked about separate hard drive vs external: For running audio off one drive and the software off another, you NEED an external/separate drive to your system drive to get any of...
