I'd assume that it's iLok protected, so even if you can just download the installer no-problem, and actually install it, you won't be able to use it because you need an iLok to authorise it. And, I'm not entirely sure about this, but I understand that Pro Tools with the complete production...

It shouldn't be. What version of Pro Tools are you on? Have you tried updating to newer versions (of 8?). And if you have the latest update, maybe you should try reverting to an older version and see if that does the trick. Sometimes updates can make things worse. What version of OSX are you...

I agree with the idea that if you have the inputs, nice, cables, and time available, then yeah, Mic it! and that's not just in reference to snares. Take priority over what's essential, such as kick, snare top, overheads and toms. Spend the time getting those sounding as good as possible before...

You need to use all the waves plugins, in backwards chronological order in your chain, and set all the presets to "default superfunk"... that'll give you phat beats
