    can't find the hole!

I am going to be recording my drummer again very soon, looking for a couple pieces of advice: 1) where should we put the hole in the kick drum...looking for a jimmy eat world type sound 2) Have a B1, B3, 2-SM58, and 4 - Sennheiser e604. I have a mackie 1604vlz pro, and presonus firestation...

is this a master effect issue?

so there is no way to apply an effect to part of a wav with out permanently changing that wav? Seems common, but kind of sucks.

is this a master effect issue?

but does not permanently change it?

is this a master effect issue?

ok, but can you insert an effect on just PART of the track, like I want flanger on the kick drum from 1:03 to 1:07?

    monitoring...

so its already mixed is what your saying? Sound like the only thing you can do at this point is play with the EQ

    steinberg support?

well...it IS ok to take an abandoned car and make it your own. This is an interesting thought...is it ok to pirate software that is 'abandoned'...take something like windows 3.1, it has exceeded its life cycle for Microsoft, and if all you have is a 386, and can't buy 3.1 anywhere...hmmm...

is this a master effect issue?

let me jump on your post, if you don't mind...can you apply the effect to a portion of the track, without permanently changing the track?

    The Mess

You wouldn't BELIEVE the mess carpenter ants make! I have a 3 season room they DESTROYED in New England...and I am spending WAY too much time working on that rather than recording :(

    Well it's here.... ADOBE AUDITION!

I already had to because of my firestation (ASIO drivers only)...even still, I had been moving the waves over to CEP2 because I like the layout so much better...but I need to start getting more into Cubase.

    cubase with presonus firestation

I think the sound on it is great...but I am disapointed it doesn't work with CEP2...I was a big fan of that program as I only do audio stuff (no midi, no loops). So, I am trying to learn cubase sx...and its coming along...but it is more confusing than CEP2.

    Well it's here.... ADOBE AUDITION!

I just don't see them being as dedicated to the 'sound' people. I think they will use this as a launching point to try to make this program do everything, and it won't be as good or as focused in the future.

    How do i Punch In?

from Plexi: Cubase SX/SL can automatically switch from playback to recording at a given position. This is known as "automatic punch in". A typical use for this would be if you need to replace a section of a recording, and want to listen to the previously recorded audio up to the recording start...

    cubase with presonus firestation

the firestation WILL make your head spin! I have one and am using Cubase as well (since CEP2 won't support it). The best thing to do is call Butch over at Presonus (look on their website) and have him take you through step by step. That is sadly what I had to do, but they are VERY good over there.

    ahhhh...drums

haven't done a new recording yet, but I am practicing the eq and stuff...am I making progress? After I did the mix down, I put the bbe sonic maximizer on it

    no monitors? next best thing?

ya, I am going to try some of those combo's...but I really didn't like the sound of that mic on the kick...I am going to try the b1 & b3 above the set, then maybe try an sm58 on the kick.

    Hole-don

I am doing some recording for my band...I think I need a hole in the front of my drummers kick drum head...what is the best way to make one of these?

    no monitors? next best thing?

unfortunately, I haven't been able to get my drummer back over for recording...hopefully this weekend...I also noticed I didn't have the mics pointed toward the center of the drum head, and it seems I may not have adhered to the 3 to 1 rule on the overheads...everything else seemed ok distance...
