Overall the "choir" sound is pretty good. Nice job there. The timing of the handclaps is kind of tedious, though -- they aren't quite in sync with the vocals. And yeah, the guitar sounds like it exists in a completely different space from everything else. Is there any way to record the guitar in...
Audacity has its uses (I use it almost every day), but there are a couple of areas where it lacks. First, it has no "mixer". Second, it doesn't have the capability to apply effects in real time. These shortcomings don't affect the sound, but they have an effect on your workflow, which impacts...
Usually I go over my vocal parts with a fine-tooth comb, but this time I experimented a bit. I did three passes through the tune: (1) left guitar + lead vocal; (2) bass + harmony vocal; and (3) right guitar. No overdubs or retakes. I guess you could say that it's my homage to the original...
Tim,
I don't have any auto-tune devices. I'd almost always rather hear an out-of tune vocal than a robotic one. The lost 8th note was a mistake, and I just left it in. My excuse is that I'm avoiding foolish consistency. (There are a few edits, but not at that spot.)
(edit) I think you may have...
I've had my Tube MP Studio for five years. It still works as well as it did when it was new. Certainly not the best mic preamp; but, as others have said, it sounds pretty reasonable on bass and piezo guitar.
As far as USB MIDI devices go, I have an Edirol UM-1X, and an M-Audio Oxygen 49. Both perform well, without any problems. I have used MOTU gear in the (distant) past, and don't remember ever being dissatisfied with it. USB can add a millisecond or two to your latency. If this bothers you, you...
Something like this ought to do the trick: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MIDISPORT4x4-main.html
While there are some theoretical problems with MIDI via USB, it works very well in practice. It seems to have driven off the market essentially all the PCI-based solutions.
(You posted your...
Registration is optional both for the songs and for the recording; but there are benefits to registering. Whether these benefits are worth the cost is up to you and your bandmates to decide. Also, check your distribution contract. Does it say whether the copyright registration must cover the...
From http://www.copyright.gov/register/performing.html, link "which form" under Step 2:
One question I have is, do you have a reason not to use form SR (see http://www.copyright.gov/register/sound.html) to register both the recording and the underlying work (the songs themselves) at the same...
I think the Maya 1010 may be the first box I've seen that provides phantom power on TRS connectors. I hope this is not the beginning of a trend. Don't accidentally plug your headphones into the microphone input!
You might consider using flac (http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html) instead of mp3 for your transfers. The amount of file compression is significantly less than with mp3, but it is completely lossless. What you get out after decompression is bit-for-bit identical to what went into compression.
Starts off slow, but builds nicely. I really like the chorus. Good pop vibe. The sparse instrumentation is quirky, yet fits the song very well.
Good job!
