I've been mixing with that approach too. I've never been able to use compression and such effects properly, so I prefer leaving my drum tracks as dry as possible. If AKG C1000s sound like shit...my Shure PG81s sound like rhinocerous shit then:D I've never been a fan of boutique expensive gear...

I liked your songs. Nice work mate! I think the low end foundation is too overpowering, sounds a bit muddy IMO. Drums could be a bit louder. Vocals sound great. Overall, good job!
