The reason
I think the reason is that when you put the effect in the track itself (an insert) all the sound goes through the plugin, and what you hear on the final bus is exactly what comes out of the plugin. You're hearing only the wet output.
When you use an Aux Send/Return, what you hear...
Volume and Velocity
Torpid,
I must comment on your advice to crank up the Volume/Velocity. You were somewhat ambiguous regarding the difference between the two, and there certainly is a difference. If you crank velocity, you are obliterating any nuance in the velocity of all the notes in...
Anyone have a good technique for getting parts written in MIDI and using SoundFonts into a 24-bit project? In 24-bit mode, I can use my Delta 66, but my Creative Audigy becomes automatically disabled by Sonar. In order to record my MIDI/SoundFont parts to WAV files, I am first setting Sonar to...
Hi, folks. A couple days ago I was the proud new owner of a Studio Projects C3. Now I'm just an owner. I bought the C3 to complement my AKG4033 and other cheaper mikes by adding the versatility of figure 8 and omni.
I was recording a singer/songwriter this past Saturday. We spent several...
MIDI latency problem with Win2K Solved!
...though the fix was rather drastic. It involves removing ACPI functionality from W2K. Since I did this, I've had no MIDI tracking problems whatsoever.

Thanks
Great suggestions, all. I will try them during my next project, which is coming up shortly. Thanks to everyone for so many good ideas.
Just to answer a couple of your questions:
1. The Mackie's pres are quieter than the Omni, to my ears.
2. The Mackie does have a direct out: if you...
I've seen this question bandied about in various places, but have found no satisfactory answers. I've done a fairly thorough search on Google Groups. My setup:
PIII-1GHz 384MB RAM, plenty-o-everything
Windows 2000 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy (for MIDI)
Delta 66/OMNI I/O
Yamaha S80 keyboard
Sonar...
Ah, Roland GR-30...
I just sold my Roland GR-30. Had it for a couple of years. I bought it because I didn't know how to play keys, and I figured I could author MIDI with it. It never worked well for that, because the tracking was never precise enough.
Until recently, I was playing in a...
the room's good
The room is very quiet, I went wild on blankets, mattress foam, etc. I get excellent results with the AT4033, almost no ambience at all. AC noise is non-existent, there are no other electronics in the room. Sigh...
On the advice of many here, I picked up two ECM8000s online. I have to say that compared to my main mic, an AT4033, these suckers are quite noisy. I know, what do I expect for 30-some-odd dollars? I suppose I'm just disappointed.
I mic'ed an acoustic guitar with an ECM8000 side-by-side with...
Seems that my Dell P990 monitor is getting ready to give up the ghost. Though not relishing the thought of laying out $$$ for a new monitor, I'm possibly considering an LCD monitor, for the following reason: Recording with my guitar in front of my CRT creates NOISE. A nice little buzz. I'm...
