the wonders of hardware coupled with a computer, mixers, dual moniters...

reinstall Sounds like Cubase's install might have overwritten an important file that Rewire needed. I'd suggest reinstalling Rewire right over itself, or else uninstall and reinstall it. If then Cubase fails, then those two programs are probably each installing a different version of a...

the wonders of hardware coupled with a computer, mixers, dual moniters...

Lemme throw a thought in here... Lemme throw a thought in here... With a PCI card, your A/D converters are probably inside a noisy (EMF-wise) computer case. With a firewire breakout box, it is not. Using an external box via firewire should provide a quieter signal. -ElSilva

The business of running a small studio?

What about horror and success stories? Does anyone have some real-life stories to share on this thread? There have to be people reading this who know someone, or experienced this first hand. We'd all love to learn from your experiences. How about resources, links or other materials that...

The business of running a small studio?

Absolutely And so a successful studio owner (like any business person) must also be a successful sales person. You need to sell the fact that you can produce much better quality faster than someone doing it themselves on their home PC with a radio shack mic. I mean, think of all that time...

The business of running a small studio?

By the way... Check out this article in today's Wired.com. Pretty much says it all regarding kiddies in their basements turning out good quality. The trend for a couple years now has certainly not been in favor of those of us wishing to create studios for fun AND profit...

The business of running a small studio?

Yep Man, wrote a whole reply, and it just disappeared, poof! Basically, Frederic beat me to the punch. I was going to add to the mix things like accountant and legal costs. 'Nuther thought, in building a practice, you're going to have to eat some costs to get established. No way you'll be...

Defragmenting Drives with Large Cluster Size

Multiple partitions mikesong, if you want to use FAT32, just create multiple partitions. Sure, it may be a hassle if your software wants to write all its audio in one dir, and you have to change that when a partition starts to get full. Maybe you can just create a 32GB partition, and use the...

    Finding a commercial/residential space

I'm doing some research on the possibility of buying a space in Chicago in which I can live and also fashion a respectable studio. I don't think I want to shell out to maintain both a home and a studio. How does one go about finding a suitable piece of commercial/residential property? I've...

What MOBO are you using with Delta 66?

VIA warning is old news That warning about VIA chipsets is old news, like one or two generations of mobos ago. I understand the new VIA chipsets are just dandy. I bought one myself. -ElSilva

Defragmenting Drives with Large Cluster Size

NTFS vs. FAT32 If I recall correctly, the reason NTFS is slower is because the NT filesystem manages more metadata per file, things like permissions for user, group, and everyone. Most how-tos I've read advise against using NTFS for audio. The most common recommendation is FAT32. FAT16 is...

What MOBO are you using with Delta 66?

Soyo Ultra Dragon Platinum KT333 Just put this baby together, and haven't logged any significant hours doing recording yet. I'll report back after I have. It's very stable doing most everything so far, though, and I've run a bunch of benchmarks on it. It has onboard sound, but you can turn...

The business of running a small studio?

Awesome Thanks, Frederic, for a fantastic amount of information. It was actually your posting about the space you found and what you're doing with it that inspired me to seriously consider doing the same. Certainly, when heading into any unfamiliar venture, research is of paramount...

Best burn-in tests for new DAW?

Zalman and stuff The Zalman's on order, should come in on Wednesday. I put the Panaflos in last week, they sound... well... they don't sound at all! The noisiest thing going is definitely the CPU fan right now. There's also a northbridge mobo fan, but I couldn't even hear it over the CPU...

Best burn-in tests for new DAW?

Greetings, folks. Just rolled my own DAW and looking for advice on burning it in. I'm looking for tests that would uncover flaws in any of the components, benchmarks and the like. Free if at all possible! :) I ran the trial SiSandra burn in test overnight, and it ran straight without...

The business of running a small studio?

Where might one find a good discussion of the ins and outs of starting and running a small studio? I've been thinking about building out a project studio and trying to make a go of it, but there's certainly a lot to consider when doing so, only some of which actually pertains to studio...

    Gone

Comments Hi, Emeric. My thoughts: The electric at the beginning was a bit loud, seemed to resonate in my listening environment a bit too much. I really like the sound quality of the vocals, but they're a bit too quiet. Bring 'em up! I might have panned the harmonies a little wider to...

Anyone use Monkey's Audio? I've been using this to compress wav files, it's non-lossy and a Winamp plugin is available so you can play the files without having to decompress first. http://www.monkeysaudio.com/

    Important Tip for Cakewalk users...

Use StartupCop Reviving a dead thread here, but whatever. I use a program called Startup Cop (try www.download.com) which lets me set multiple profiles for my Win2K PC. it controls what starts at boot-up time. I considered dual boot, but I do so much multitasking, I like to have all my...
