    Recording Software

Other.... Started with Sonar 2.0, moved up to Sonar 3 Pro (HUGE improvements), now have 4 Pro on the way, with a free upgrade to the new one when it comes out(later this year?). Joel

how do i start a home studio??

Rookie85, I certainly don't want to discourage you from building a home studio, but you and the other band members need to set some realistic goals: 1. If your intent is to record a CD to use for promotion and/or sell at gigs, how soon would you like to have it completed? If you're thinking...

Ok So Lets Review This Bouncing Of Tracks?

This is how I manage bouncing(or submixing) as well. The naming of files can be rather important as the size of a project grows. I like incorporating dates into the naming, to help identify the latest versions. Sonar also has an "info" feature that I use to store notes about the file. This is...

    best kick drum mic?

Another vote for the Audio Technica ATM25. Better than the Pro25. Very nuetral sounding. Works well on many different kicks for many different types of music. Joel

    poor man U67

I have both the Hamburg and the Vienna. The sound of the two mics is surprisingly close. The Hamburg is slightly darker sounding, but not to the point one couldn't EQ the two to match. Or at least get them very close to matching. I've never had the pleasure of trying a U67, so I have no idea...

    cubase or cakewalk...or neither?

I don't know anything about Cubase. I do know I really like Cakewalk, Sonar 2, 3 Pro and now 4 Pro is on it's way! Joel

Who's cheap gear do you trust the most?

I voted for Carvin. I've used their gear for years and have always been satisfied with the build quality. I can reasonably say the same about the many pieces of Peavey gear I have, but I tend to like Carvin better in general. I've always had pleasant experiences when dealing with them...

Alesis HD24xr - what do you think?

Nuemes, Here's another thought: Add another LX20. You can get them on eBay for very little money. If you're happy with the results you're currently getting with the LX20, but need more tracks, would another 8 do it for you? My line of thinking goes like this: Buying the HD24XR will cost you...

Best kick drum mic for many styles of music

ATM25 all the way! About as neutral as you can get on a kick. I've used it at festivals on many different kicks and it always sounds good! I've never used either, but from what I've read, both the Shure Beta 52 and the D112 are rather colored. This may be perfect for a certain sound, but if you...

help making my own decent quality XLR cables.

I'm in the process of moving my studio from my basement to a new local. I'm planning to making most (if not ALL) cables for this permanent install. You mention Canare Quad, but why is there four wires? I thought all XLR and balanced cable used three wire? Joel
