recording loud rock band with DP-02CF

inadequate card space My recording session went pretty well but I am having a problem with lack of memory. The portastudio came with a 1 GB cf card. I recorded a continuous 22 minutes or so of the first band and ran out of space. I transferred the tracks (2 of them) to the partition but my...

    recording rock band with portastudio

Well, maybe a little. Perhaps all the bodies will reduce unwanted sound bouncing around and into the mics. Thanks guys. If I have just one mic for the drums, and it's a small condensor mic, should I hang it from above? Point it from the floor?

Excuses excuses. Just fly in from DFW to Newark and you can stay the night at Mr. Q's house in New Jersey (just don't tell him I said so).

Slim's gig on the Lower East Side (NYC)

I, along with my erstwhile percussionist, will be appearing at the National Underground www.thenationalunderground.com in NYC's historic and eclectic Lower East Side on Friday May 7, 2010 at 8 pm (one set). Larry Kolker with "Sticks" Levine. It's a cool venue (good burgers too, and other bands...

    recording rock band with portastudio

I recently picked up a Tascam DP-02CF for simple recordings. It can only handle two inputs at once (XLR or 1/4"). As a favor to my son, I will try to record his band (two vocals, two electric guitars, bass and drums) during a party in our basement (approx. 15' x 30') on Friday. In the first...

    help! stuck neutrik speakon jack

Thanks. Yes, I do know how to work the thing. It was fine the first few times. I suppose the problem is almost definitely with the connector and not the mixer, so eventually I can try cracking the casing open. These fucking things are expensive though. Y'know, I never once had a problem...

    help! stuck neutrik speakon jack

I have a powered mixer that takes the neutrik speakon jacks. A wonderful modern improvement to be sure. Unfortunately, the third or fourth time I plugged one in it got stuck. It still twists but then it won't come off. Any advice? Should I hit it? Spit on it? Ask it nicely?

    broken Martin DX1

Thanks for the advice.:) I guess reattaching it with deck screws wouldn't be a very good idea.

    broken Martin DX1

I got my son a Martin DX1 about 3 years ago. The back has separated from most of the sides. Granted, he left it lying around all the time but it's not like he left it outside or paddled a canoe with it or anything. I got it at a Sam Ash store. Is this something I should expect the store to...

Acoustic (not the brand) guitar amps

I have a Fender Acoustasonic (the big one), which I got about 10 years ago and have gotten a lot of good use out of it. You can definitely get the sound you want. And it does have a separate channel for a vocal mic. However, if I was getting one today, I would probably go with this...

    Airline '59 Custom guitar

He did try one in a guitar store and liked the way it felt and sounded. But assuming we are not going vintage, is he better off with a standard American Strat?

    mic cello for live sound

How do you suggest micing a cello for live sound - small to medium venue such as a sanctuary. sm57 or small condensor, etc. And if I can get the cellist to buy a pickup, which do you recommend?

dynamic mic for live female vocals

Thanks. But let's assume she won't want a used vocal mic. The OM3 seems to be getting good reviews for around that price. Did your friend like the Audix because of its clarity?

dynamic mic for live female vocals

Do you have a recommendation specifically for the girls? A friend on mine is looking for a mic for performance in fairly small venues; she is accompanied by mostly acoustic instruments. range is about second soprano. a nice but not powerful voice. budget is under $150. I like my trusty sm58...

    What is this chord?

I haven't listened to it but it "sounds" to me that (assuming no capo) she is using it as one would use an Am7 in the key of C (since it has no third you can't distinguish between Am7 and A7). It might not be discernable on the recording because it just sounds like part of the C chord that...
