I tend to think the "busy" guitar is fine... I was expecting to agree with gecko here as I've reached a point in my own writing where I try to remove the guitar as much as possible from everything I do(as opposed to earlier points in my writing career where I thought I was Eddie Van Halen :))...

I would personally go with the 388, because: a) more tracks b) I think they are really cool c) it will probably have a higher resell value This line of thought assumes that both units are in equal condition though... if the 3440 is pristine and the 388 is a little beat that might change things...

i've seen that piece around quite often fairly recently... whether it's good or not I can't necessarily say. Imho it's pretty difficult to go wrong with just about anything tascam makes though.

That's pretty gnarly, especially as I'm thinking that I read my a-2340 weighs around 45. The thing must be a real beast of a cassette machine:D! and yet without any knowledge of the sound that comes out of it I can't help but find myself wanting one....

believe me.. if you were to play each and compare you would know. possibly if you just listened to someone else playing you would know.

you dont want to connect the pod through midi... the midi interface on the pod is used to control settings only. If you want audio you need to attach the audio output of the pod to the audio input of the uno. Midi connections don't pass audio only data.

you could try looking at something by krk... my krk5's have both I think I picked up the pair for around 200usd a few years ago.. or you could always use 1/4in to rca adapter:)

Do a search on whatever brand of tape you are using and see if it is prone to "sticky/shed", I've never experienced it myself but my understanding is it can cause a lot of transport problems and is just generally a mess. Older tape would definitely be more prone.
