    I'll be the guinea pig - Delta 66 & nforce 415D

I had a cheap no-name 300w power supply (that came with the case) which broke down after 6 months and would cause my computer (a PIII 500Mhz back then) to randomly reboot. I went shopping for a *quality* power supply (ie Enermax, Antec...) and, as there was little difference in price between...

    Spec check please?

Raven, M-audio works fine with win2k. Here's another link you should check out if you're going with an nforce mobo: http://kazemizadeh.net:8080/nforce/nforce.html Might seem scary at first, but the problems listed are under Win98 se, no reports of problems under win2k...and no need for 4-in-1...

    Spec check please?

Raven, I have an Asus A7N266-C, which uses the nvidia 415-D chipset (integrated audio but no integrated graphics). It's been working flawlessly for 10 days now with my Delta 66 under win2k (it's been up 24/7, used both as a DAW and as a server for sharing my internet connection), as I've...

    Motherboard Help Please?

A7M266 Of the ones you mentionned the Asus A7M-266 comes highly recommended for audio and video work. It's very stable since it uses the AMD 761 northbridge (ie not a Via northbridge, that's a good thing). Doesn't have RAID but you shouldn't need it anyway.

    rode ntk

I use an NTK with a Joemeek VC6Q, it sounds fine to me...Depends on what you're recording, and your personal preferences. You really have to listen for yourself ;)

What AMD motherboard combo is the best for audio

I just built a pc used as a DAW based on an Asus A7N266-C motherboard (nforce 415-D chipset) and XP1700+ 5 days ago. It's been on 24/24h for these five days since its also being used as a server, and I haven't had to reboot yet. No crashes. Nada :) I did some audio recordings with my Delta66...

    rode ntk

It's own mic pre?? Where did you get that from?? The NTK comes with its own power supply (like all tube mics), but you need a mic pre to go with it...

    anyone have a quiet computer

Lucid, I'm using the Asus A7N266-C motherboard (nforce 415-D chipset) I don't think the settings can be wrong in MBM5 : what I did was just put 1 MBM sensor for each asus sensor (asus 1, 2 and 3). Sensor 1 and 2 came up with coherent results, sensor 3 showed -32°C (yep that's a minus sign!)...

    anyone have a quiet computer

The fact that the heatsink is only a little warm with the cpu reading 56°C could be a sign that the heatsink isn't working as it should. If you know how to do this, I would check if the heatsink is seated properly and maybe put on some new thermal compound after having taken of the old one...

    anyone have a quiet computer

According to Motherboard Monitor 5 (which is the software I use to monitor everything) my Volcano 7 is spinnig at 4066rpm... What monitoring sofware are you using?? it sounds like your readings are messed up...The Volcano 7 has an embedded temp sensor which makes the fan speed drop to...

    anyone have a quiet computer

Lucid your temps are pretty high... Did you use thermal compound?? Is the heatsink seated properly on the cpu? Is your case well ventilated?? And, now that I think of it, is it hot this time of year in Malaysia??I'm in France and it's winter at the moment, and I like to keep my room pretty...

    anyone have a quiet computer

Lucid, I'm using a Thermaltake Volcano 7 fan & heatsink on the cpu, here's a pic: http://www.thermaltake.com/products/heatsink/v7.htm I also have an Enermax 430W power supply with an intake fan just above the cpu. The cpu is not overclocked! Rochey, Carillion use PIII and dual PIII if...

    anyone have a quiet computer

Yep, watch your temps! This isn't as bad as I feared though: my cpu (XP1700+) and motherboard (A7N266-C) are respectively at 37C and 41C with the closet door closed. With the door open the temps go down to 33C and 37C

    anyone have a quiet computer

I really believe that's the way to go...If you don't want the computer to interfere with your recordings you have to put it in another room, or in a closet... A 'silent' fan and 'silent 'power supply and 'silent' harddrive might be quiet enough for the average gamer who doesn't want to be...

    anyone have a quiet computer

Another closet user I have my PC in the closet too! I think it's a good solution, since you don't need to buy a silent cpu fan, a silent power supply and a silent hardrive: just soundproof your closet!

    I'll be the guinea pig - Delta 66 & nforce 415D

Wow!!! I bought the Asus A7N266-C (nvidia nforce 415D chipset) today with an XP1700+ and 256 Mb DDR-SDRAM, as an upgrade from my PIII 500 on an Elite board using a Via chipset .... No problems at all so far, all software and hardware (including the Delta 66) installed fine I haven't recorded...
