Yes you can both mix and mox down to a cd-r recorder, but you have to do it in software first. What multitrack software are you using (Cubase, Cakewalk, Sonar, N-Tracks...)? Or is it a standalone cd-r recorder you're using?? Give some info on your setup

I think the best way to learn about computers is to do the same as many people here do to learn about recording : find a BBS that seems friendly and informative (and deals with the subject you're interested in!)

What speed is your processor??? If it's one of the faster PII's (ie 400-450Mhz) you might be okay by adding a little ram (add at least 128Mb). Otherwise I think your system is just not powerful enough to playback the Logic Demo song : how many tracks are there?

"Warmness" is a subjective quality. There's no way you can rate "warmness" : it depends on how and on whom the mic is being used, as well as who's listening... Signal to noise ratio isn't something you should be concerned with when choosing a mic since all the ones you mentionned have very low...
