    DATS - quality? brands?

    A DAT machine is a digital recorder..not analog..1's and 0's on tape..you would be better off with a CD burner at this point.IMHO..Good luck :)

    No they had records! And they went to tape..sweet,sweet 2" tape..Alot of the stuff thats new now is tryin to emulate alot of that old outdated stuff..Bla Bla Bla ect. ect.As for the band{not a Metalica fan} I bet they had some road under them when they did that album :)

    Passive MONITORs for under $500?

    Event 20/20's passives are about 300.00..Then take the remaining couple of bucks and look into a used poweramp...go listen to the monitors before you buy..there are a buttload of passives that are inexpensive..Happy hunting :)

    Nothing really helpful ..but interesting..Tack bass had a similar thing going on..Think early Elvis,Buddy Holly ect..Maybe try compessing and EQ..If you have a couple of open tracks..try keeping one uneffected and one clobbered...Blend and Bounce the two to a open track ..check your phase on the...

    There are as many choices as there are blades of grass!As for ste. vers mono it depends!But you can do fine with one mic of any type..As for the O12..I have some of those..Alot of times its just one mic at the 12th fret for a rock track..As for the 012 I have found that its pretty good at adding...

    Good Mic vs. Good Preamp

    Use what you got,I don't know if your board has inserts..If it does the "tap"the insert.Do this by takeing you 1/4" cable into insert jack going in one click..then take the other end of cable and plug it into your recording device..This will give you generally a clearer/cleaner...
