Do you use a pick to play bass?

I went from guitar to bass so I guess that's why I started using a pick and never stopped. I also like the attack and punch you get from a pick and subtle palm muting. I play an Eko Barracuda bass with black nylon tape wounds. They provide the warmth that fingers would provide and the pick...

    Stereo recording on the DP-02?

Nooo!!! Thanks Dave. Not being able to buss the inputs to a single track SUCKS! I know these newer DigitalPortaStudio's are aimed at the "one man band", record one thing at a time recordist, but if I want to use two mics to record an acoustic guitar to one track I'll have to use a front end...

    Stereo recording on the DP-02?

I'm this close to buying a Tascam DP-02 as an upgrade to my demo studio multitrack. I've heard a few times though that you can't record to two tracks from both inputs? True? The main reason I want the DP-02 is to take some tracks from my Tascam 488mkII and transfer them over to the DP-02 by...

A comparison of mp3 versus cassette tape.

Interesting experiment. The 320k MP3 of the CD was very spiky, but I think all MP3's, even at this higher rate, sound that way. The cassette was weird, a little hollow sounding, but I think I prefer that MP3 to the other.

First tune done on Tascam 414 - Check it out!

Thanks Chad. I really dug your stuff too. It's nice having wives who sing and support us isn't it?;)

    424 vs. 488

I've used both the 424 and 488mkII extensively and like both machines. When running hot signals, using good mics and pre's and just using good recording technique in general; the 424 edges out the 488mkII in sound quality just a hair due to only 4 tracks being printed to tape vs. 8 tracks. But...

First tune done on Tascam 414 - Check it out!

Great recording Chad... Beautifully done Chad. I believe it was done on a 414. If you plan and use good technique and equipment you can make any cassette multitrack recording sound stellar. Me and my wife have messed around with my old Tascam 424 with just a tube pre and a nice condenser and...

Sgt pepper 4-tracks? Got em? I do...

Just downloaded the MP3's of the four Pepper songs. The "Day In The Life" bass/drum track is insane! These are the best boots to come down the pike since the original Ultra Rare Trax CD's. Groundbreaking, and I bet my left nut these were smuggled out of the Abbey Road tape archives during the...

Thanks for the rep hit Dave. The 488mkII and the original 424 are classics! I love the way drums and bass sound on those machines. Cassettes or not, they rule!

    let me see your studio!

Demo Studios Here's my first demo setup; just a Tascam 424,an ART FXR, one SM57 and a pair of Sony MDR7506's was it! Bare bones beginning recording circa 1994: My last demo studio; a Tascam 488mkII, Tascam CDR, Digitech Studio Quad V2 , Behringer Compressor, ART Dual MP, ART Compressor and...

    Hardware Compressor vs. Tascam DP-02

Won't using the aux sends on the DP02 mix some of the uncompressed signal with the compressed signal from the unit? I guess I could set it to be 100% wet, etc... but it just seems unwieldy to me. I've always heard to avoid using dynamics equipment with effects sends/returns. I've also heard that...

    Hardware Compressor vs. Tascam DP-02

I want to use my Behringer compressor with my Tascam DP-02. The Tascam has no inserts and using the aux sends is out of the question as the sole send is being used with my Digitech Studio Quad (the internal effects on the DP-02 are the drizzling sh*ts) and having some of the original signal...
