... just one more thing ...
To burn CD's on your PC from your D8, you will need some sort of recording software to record to. If you have a soundcard with optical (S/Pdif) inputs, just hook up the optical out on the D8 to the optical in on your soundcard hit play on the D8 & record on your...
Hey artfuleo,
First, a question to answer your question: are you listening to your copied cassette on the same amp & speaker combination you're listening to the playback from the D8 on? If it's different, then your problem is probably a monitoring issue. There are plenty of threads here on...
The thing is ...
getting back to the original question, "What is possible in home rec'ing and what goals can we realistically set?".
I dunno, is the sky a realistic goal?
Modest equipment mixed with TALENT is the recipe, surely. Talent to play/sing, talent to track, talent to mix, talent to...
Just getting back to the 'engineer/artist/equipment/song' thing again,
Moby recorded his 'Play' album in his home studio using an old version of Cubase on an ageing Mac II SI computer! With a few guitars, a couple of old keyboards including a 'Casio' (prob'ly a couple of new ones too ) a...
G'day Gentlemen,
Actually there are quite a few 'regions' in the world as far as DVD goes. Here in Australia we are region 4.
The 'multi region' DVD players (or the ones that have been 'hacked' as such) are an attempt to save a few bucks (read $millions) by the studio's.
If a film is released...
Yep, I'm in
Well, Ok, I only have a D8,
but I love it lots, an' I love making music on it , an' it is a Korg, an' I promise I won't get in the way, an', did I say I love it lots? yeah, OK,
well, can I, please? Huh, can I???

Hi Guy's,
... just a thought ...
could ya borrow/hire a digital video cam or something, the kind you can hook up an external mic to.
Compact, reasonable sound and runs for ages off batteries. And it's in stereo!
Collect your sounds, head home, dump the audio into your home set-up and mix...
G'day Jelly
Yeah, wot Keith said.
I was in the same position as you about 12 months ago.
After considering everything I thought I needed and what I wanted to do with it vs my budget, I went for the Korg D8.
8 track, uncompressed, hard-disc is easily upgradable (Toshiba Laptop!), built-in...
Digital Clipping!!!
DON'T DO IT!
Sorry, didn't mean to shout.
Digital clipping is just that, clipping the tops off your sound waves. Instant distortion.
If you really NEED the signal louder (and as you said it already sounds great!) you could try a little compression on some of the louder...
WOW
ok, where to begin...
1) No, and Yes.
2) Whatever is in the keyboard (synth.) is what u can use.
3) They will only be recorded as DIGITAL audio if your keyboard has a DIGITAL output and your soundcard has DIGITAL inputs. Otherwise you will be recording analogue audio onto your digital...
Ozler,
For my two bob's worth, I think the 'all-in-one' units are the way to go, if you don't want to start building up a bits and pieces studio with computer, sound card, input, output, plug-inz, and all the other decisions and possiblle conflicts that go with them, etc. etc. Obviously the...
Neil,
There is no real difference between 'bouncing' or 'mixing down'; all you are doing is recording whats on 1 or more tracks to another track or tracks. (*You can 'mixdown' to just 1 track, but you're not gonna get real good separation of your sounds!!!)
By setting the 'Input' mode to...
G'day Neil.
I have a D8, but I'm assuming they're gonna be similar.
It sounds like what u want to do is 'mixdown' 2 tracks to 1; is that right?
If so, u set the tracks u want to 'Playback' and then u set the 'destination' track (that's the one u want to record to...) to 'Record". Pan the...
G'day 2low,
... just another little thing to consider when looking for all-in-one units is file compression. Some use it, some dont. And it will affect, to a certain extent, what you can and can't do with your finished files. I own a Korg D8, and FWIW I think it's great! From what I hear from...
G'day Vease,
Yep. What you're after is 'do-able' with most stand-alone recorders.
I've got a Korg D8 because I didn't want to go the computer recording rout either.
Most of the stand alone units seem to use their own proprietary brand of file storage. Mini-disc recorders obviously need to use...
G'day Vibratone,
I'm kind of guessing here coz I've got the D8, not the D16.
But like you mentioned, using the 'scrub' function and the 'in & out' points, you should be able to 'delete' the areas of silence in a song. (Remember to do it to all tracks on the same song if you are in multitrack...
You might also like to add the cost of 'plug-ins' to your computer set up.
What it really comes down to is what you want to end up with and what you want to do with it.
A portable all-in-one workstation is just that; portable! A computer aint.
A computer is a lot more expandable than an...
G'day,
I'm a very happy owner of a Korg D8. So my advice may be somewhat biased!
There is a plethora of info and opinions on this subject all over this, and other forums, but you just have to make up your own mind depending on what you want to end up with.
But for my .2c worth...
The Korg has...
Build your own
Hey Mayo,
check out http://www.prorec.com/ and click on the story titled
"Roll Your Own 2000".
Build your own set-up specifically for audio recording.
Very tech, very informative, and it's an all-round good site.
Cheers,
Hi all.
I do my recording onto my Korg D8 (digital all-in-one 8 track) and don't really have anything more than an old cassette recorder at the moment to mix down to. (You can mixdown to a stereo pair on the Korg ... you know...)
So, a CD recorder (like Phillips) seems to be the go for most D8...
