Studio Projects C4- 1st night in use... Grade B+

Richie- Wasn't trying to drag you into this, just referencing your comment about the C4 being one of the best mics at that price point. The Behris are at a different price point. My opinion is that they're not really competitors-the B5 and the 603 might be, though....

    Condenser's not working??

Possible problem with the phantom power supply on the board...I KNOW this is a stupid question, but did you make sure the phantom power was switched on the 2nd time? If it was, you may want to have the phantom power checked.....the dynamics will work regardless of the phantom power...

    Studio Projects B1

Not trying to start flame wars. Just trying to point out that you have an agenda and take every opportunity to slam Studio Projects products, sometimes telling outright lies to make them look bad. I feel that's a HUGE contribution to this BBS-without people like me, people like you might...

Studio Projects C4- 1st night in use... Grade B+

Re: Re: Re: Re: Studio Projects C4- 1st night in use... Grade B+ Are a Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 and a Chevrolet Corvette competitors? Both are made by Chevrolet, both have an engine, transmission, and 4 tires, both are marketed as sports cars.... But one is priced at $15K, and one at $75K...

    Studio Projects B1

Notice that DJL keeps bumping this thread so it stays near the top of the board with fact filled posts like and This is a DJL wet dream post...someone actually had a problem with a Studio Projects mic. Multiple opportunities to make little aside comments like this one and this one...

Studio Projects C4- 1st night in use... Grade B+

Re: Re: Studio Projects C4- 1st night in use... Grade B+ Just because the Behri's LOOK like the C4 does NOT make them a competitor to the C4. Different price points, and, as Richie said above you, completely different quality. Would you say than an MXL 2001 is a competitor to a Neumann U87...

small problem with studio projects B1

So are glowing reviews of Studio Projects mics. Just to keep things fair and balanced...I wouldn't want anyone to mistake you for one of our more rational posters. And you were doing so well for so long...musta run out of meds again, huh?

Aggressive rock, big guitars, you know the drill

On "Day For Change", the drums need something...compression, eq....I can't tell exactly what to do there. They're just kind hiding back there-that snare should jump out a little more. Overheads sound OK, maybe a little hot. Guitar sounds good, maybe lacking a little "bite". Bass needs to come...

    ANother mix for critique!

Toki- Thanks for the feedback. I had a feeling the piano parts were a little quiet at the beginning and middle, but I kept listening to it thinking "It'll be OK."...guess not. That's an easy fix. I never heard the OH's quite that hot in my tracking version. I'll have to listen to it again-I...

    ANother mix for critique!

Another mix for critique! Another tune from a band recording a CD in my studio. I've used a lot of the suggestions I got on the mix I posted of a different tune last month...hopefully this one will be relatively "tweak-free" at this point...but if I REALLY believed that, I wouldn't be posting...

How to 'audition' a microphone before buying

In a lot of cases, the folks at GC will let you take the mics into one of their "little" rroms with the decent pres and amps. They're not soundproof, but they'll certainly cu down the amount of background noise, and keep the EVH wannabes from screwing up the baseline for your tests. I know when...

Did anyone else bid in the MP3.com auction?

It's over (I think) for the day. No audio gear tomorrow.... :-( It was at www.cowanalexander.com...there's still a catalog of all the goodies that you missed... :-)

Did anyone else bid in the MP3.com auction?

They had 4 Avalon 737's, 3 U87ai's, and couple of 414's, and several 58's and 57's. A bunch of boards and external processors. The Avalons went for about $1700-$1800 each, the U87's for about $1400-$1500 each. No real bargains....

    Mic mounting ?

It looks cool. It allows for a music stand, etc, under the mic without cables dropping down. I'm sure there's a legitimate answer to this question, but I have no freakin' idea what it might be...:D Somebody answered it once in a thread, but I can't remember what the reason was-made sense at...

    Some Mixing Tips

OK...you went there....:D How DO you handle a singer that moves all over the place? I've got one in the studio now that has a TON of range, and the dynamics in the songs require everything from just over a whisper to full-blown, from-the-gut blasting. He knows enough to back off the mic when...

    Some Mixing Tips

Harvey- How do you document things like mic placement, etc.? I document the beejesus out of my sessions, but I feel kinda stupid standing in front of the talent writing things down in a spiral-bound notebook...

What OHs won't make the cymbals too thin??

Yep. Sonixx makes some great points in his post, as well. Do a search of the mic forum using the key words "Harvey Gerst", and look for the thread where Harvey talks about how to do a quick-and-dirty mic match while you're at a store. Print the thread and put it in your pocket. Go back to GC...
