Are some DAWs just more stable than others?

This is for a complete uninstall/reinstall of sonar 1) Completely un-install SONAR from your computer. This is normally done from Start | Programs | Cakewalk. This will not remove any of your project files or audio data. 2) Next you will want to open the Run Command a) In Windows XP...

Are some DAWs just more stable than others?

What version of X1 are you running? From memory, I believe there were several updates, culminating in X1d When you reinstalled Sonar, did you go into the Registry and delete the 2 very important keys that need deleting prior to reinstalling?

    Mixbus Processing

There is nothing inherently "wrong" with mixing into Master Buss Processors, and it kind of makes sense when you want to A/B against your reference material. Just make sure that if you import your reference track into your DAW for comparison purposes that you route it directly to your interface...

    Double tracked vocals

I agree to an extent. you can get away with a fair bit of pitch variations between the 2 tracks, but i always find it's the timing that can make or break the combined effect. Sloppy timing on double tracks just sounds, well, sloppy. I always start by tightening the timing up and THEN listen...

    Best way to automate volume?

There are 3 distinct ways to record automation data on an existing envelope in sonar, Touch, Latch and Overwrite. Selecting the correct one (Touch in your case where you want to "correct" an existing envelope) will make your job much easier. You also can select the entire envelope and drag it...

Mixing a whole drum kit that's in one stereo track

Or you could clone the stereo track a few times, aggressively filter out different parts of the frequency spectrum and work on each "track" separately. But it's not ideal.

    Sonar 8 producer edition & windows 10

I have absolutely no doubt that 8.5 needs access to certain libraries, including Microsoft Redistributable C+ libraries that are no longer part of Windows 10, so my original premise still holds - upgrade your software or downgrade your pc.

    Sonar 8 producer edition & windows 10

There is a VERY strong chance the 8.5 will not run at all on Windows 10. 2 choices - upgrade Sonar or downgrade your pc

Building a studio into a hillside. What shape should it be?

The problem with these shapes is that no matter where you put your monitors, they aren't going to sit equidistant from your walls. Try something like this (edit to suit your space):

Are 8 "tracks" too few when mixing a DAW through a hardware mixer?

I eventually manage to sell my Soundcraft Spirit Studio 32 last year (for a fraction of what i paid for it). I hadn't mixed on it for about 5 years and now I've got a load more space.

Has anybody upgraded to Windows 10?

I run Sonar on 2 different computers - my main DAW is still on Win 7, the other I've upgraded to Win 10 and so far, Sonar runs like a dream on it

Windows 10 - MIDI and Audio Changes

I've installed win 10 on my secondary DAW and the only issue I had was that it insisted on installing the previously disabled onboard Realtek driver. Once I disabled it again and downloaded the new driver for my Focusrite USB 6 it was fine. Everything seems a bit quicker on Win 10, a...
