    Teac 144

Sounds like something loose. Check the multi pin that is at the end of the pb/rec head chain of wires. It goes into the first circuit board you'll find. Clean it with contact cleaner. I'll look up the number tonight and repost. Check for cold solders on this board as well. Also REALLY CLEAN ALL...

    Interesting reading: Cassette Mythos

Very cool site! Nice work Sherlock! My favourite cassette story is how Springsteen recorded 'Nebraska' on a 144 and walk around with the tape in his pocket for weeks. :) BTW I know I'm losing it because I thought I had already posted a reply. ( I did, but over at the 'recording project'.....doh) :o

    How do erase heads work?

Ask and ye shall receive! This is a lot of great info. My hunch is that there might be a problem with the erase amplifiers. I'll go deep again and check it out although I'll have to wrestle it away from wife. She's got it set up in the living room and has been using it as a songwriting tool...

    How do erase heads work?

My TEAC 144 is acting up again. Tracks 1 and 2 only partially erase previously recorded material. They record new stuff fine. Tracks 3 and 4 work perfectly. I sort of know how erase heads work but how do they create NO signal on the tape. Once again any help from this wonderful cache...

    Problem with TEAC A-3440

Belt slippage First thing I would check is if the capstan drive belt is slipping. Put a good FRESH tape on and in play, watch to see if there is any slippage. With that radical a change in speed, it should be obvious. If it does you need a new belt. As far as modifications go, measure the...

    Hammond C3 oiling question.

I have a Hammond C3 that is living in my studio and I know nothing about how to oil it. I found the two little cups but what do I put in them? How often and how much?I have no manual. A friend left it here after a session and it has become a popular instrument around here. I want to keep it in...

isnt there a cheater way to multitrack with an average cassette recorder?

Rokket I can remember doing this in high school. It was cool the first time but I soon realized that I wasn't going to make the next Sgt. Pepper this way. 4 Track cassette is definately the way to go. Lot's on E-bay. :p

The pinch roller is going to Terry's Pinch Roller Hostpital. It's baked. Track 2 has mysteriously decided to work. I'll ask no questions and be grateful. But I haven't been able to find out why the transport won't engage. All the fuses are good; at least the ones I could find. I have no manual...
