    How to Run a Studio

I have given this subject serious thought too. I have a reasonable amount of space, though not huge by a long shot. It's much less financial risk if you can get away with running a studio in a residential zoned area. It might also give you a feel for the market in your location providing the...

    Best solder...

I have a pound of .032 I use as well. Depends on the task. Either melts well at 30w. And usually one is as good as the other...except for SMT.

Clutter or no, it still looks nice. Very comfortable looking. I like the muted colors.

    Roland JX-3P

I had one of these 20 years ago. Nice vintage synth. Go to the Roland site and sign up. You can download the manual free from there. I'm looking at it right now.

How do you store your cables?

I hang mine over a water pipe in another room of the basement. It works for everything under 16'

    SYNC problem on bounce :[

That's pretty much a 'no-brainer' if you are recording more than four tracks. However, many of us started just like you are with the exception of the deck possibly being a Portastudio and using a stereo cassette deck to bounce to and from. Face it, you've already outgrown your four-track. Time...

Ok, I'm completely new, and I have some simple questions

...that you probably won't hear on a dynamic. Which are also great mics for a crappy room.

I get NPR on my tape outs

You could always move to a more conservative area of the country but that's hard to find anywhere now days. Short of building a faraday cage for your room, balanced cables are one of your few options. You can use impedance matching transformers but that could get pricey. You might try moving...

    Newbie Starting Home Studio Recording.

Most have forgotten about tape, but you can interface your mixer with direct outs (whichever you choose) to either an analog tape machine or a digital tape machine. You'll have one channel per track depending upon your combination. It's always good to match the number of channels (or more) with...

    Building a studio.

I'd build the studio structure within the garage. I'm not even sure £3000 would cover that.

Who owns a Roland Space Echo (tape) and what apps. do you use it on?

I used one of those 20 or more years ago, but they're pretty pricey now and many need work. The RE-20 is close enough for me. Both sound good.

    Mandatory reading re: guitar cables

Absolutely. I can play several days in a row and not have the rig sound the same way twice to my ears. Depends upon my mood, setting, am I hungry, do I need another cup of coffee, even the time of day for me. Yesterday morning sounded awesome. Last night sounded like ass so I put it down after...

Does anybody know what this chord is?

Correct, but with an added 5th it makes the 5th(s) more prominant and lessens the sound of the third. Still a G as you said, but with two 5ths as opposed to one.
