    Tascam 38 VU Meters

The meter may need to be grounded to the chassis to work. Don't know for sure as I don't have the schematic in front of me. You may have also shorted the bulb while pulling it out. ??? I haven't had mine apart since 2005 when I replaced a belt.

    Reel to reel rack/cabinet - what's a good design?

This used to be a straight-front equipment rack that I modified for use with my 38. After cutting the front at the angle you see, I moved the rack rails forward to flush mount the equipment. I also cut the rack rails to fit only the sloped area. The left over rail I used to make a seven space...

I usually don't post here, but...

Wow. That was worth the listen. The vocal reminds me of David Bowie. It sounds like they may have a future if they keep writing like that.

    Behringer, a jem or crap?

What you would likely have to do is carefully cut through the back with a Dremel and a cutoff wheel. I would mark out a definite rectangle that would allow removal of the woofer and room to work. A lip or a stop with mounting blocks and inserts would have to be fabricated around the perimeter...

    Yarrgghhh

And experiment with it until you do. That tone is in there, you just haven't found a way to get it out.

    Behringer, a jem or crap?

After reading this entire thread a month ago and searching for other reviews on what I was about to purchase I pulled the trigger on a Behringer SX4882. I was shopping for a replacement TASCAM M-2524 for my M-1516 but no one would ship and I was too far away to pick it up myself. The Mackie...

    experience?

I was in the same boat in 1985. I just 'did it' and learned as I went along.

    tascam msr 16 repair question

A 16 channel mixer will work if it has direct outs (or inserts) and tape returns for each channel. If it has no tape returns or B mix inputs you'll need at least another 16 channels to monitor on in a split configuration. A 16 or 24 channel eight buss recording board is ideal with a 16 track...

    Patchbay Advice?

It makes perfect sense to me. I had a patchbay when I ran a simple four-track setup in the '80's, but it was a neccesity back then without any sends and no inserts on the channels. I'm going to be rigging up a patchbay for my current setup pretty soon, but at this time I have enough in's and...

    Piece of Sh!t Behringer

I spent $500 ten years ago on a machine and console that was already 20 years old when I bought it and it's still in top form. The machine was almost 3K and the console was around 2K. What does that math work out to?

    Lateset tape + tape scam

I agree. There's nothing wrong with the clueless telling the truth about a piece of gear. When they don't offer a return in a reasonable amount of time for something they don't even know how to power on, that's what irritates the hell out of me.

    how to wire analog gear

Outs go into In's. More specifically, effects are used on send's and returns. Dynamics processing are normally used on your console's inserts. Run your direct outs or buss outs to the ADAT. Bring the tape returns into the B mix, tape returns, or another set of line inputs if you have neither of...

From where are you running your sub?

Yeah, duh. I found that out the hard way once already and for the last time. I wasn't quite familiar yet with the board and pushed the talkback button by mistake while I had a track running. Scared the crap out of me as I was about two feet in front of a monitor. My first console with TB...

    Lateset tape + tape scam

That's the number one thing that pisses me off about e-Bay sellers of gear. "Sorry I have no way to test it", or even better, "I know nothing about this equipment". And at the bottom of the listing; "No Returns Accepted". Well what the hell are you doing with a piece of gear you can't test and...

From where are you running your sub?

Thanks. I didn't think there was anything 'standard' but thought I'd ask. I think I"ll use the studio outs. I'll get that hooked up tonight after work. The reason for the switch was so that I could wire another set of smaller passive monitors to the amp. Since the sub is powered I can use a...

Yep. I could come up with a hundred examples if I gave it some thought.

From where are you running your sub?

For those using an analog desk and using a sub woofer, where are you running the sub-out from? I'm running the main monitors on the monitor outs through the amp, and at the moment I'm running a powered sub off the amp. I have the option to use line level out of the desk, but haven't decided...

    Looking to buy a Teac/Tascam 80-8...

If it was a 30ips machine I wouldn't worry about it, but at 15ips I use it and I can tell the difference. Some put up with what little noise there is, but I like analog recordings with as little hiss as is possible. Yes, I recommend the noise reduction. Unless of course that particular dbx...

    Looking to buy a Teac/Tascam 80-8...

I would agree with the comment about the electronics on the 1/2" TASCAM's. If the track width was the only deciding factor TASCAM would have sold millions of these machines. The quality of the electronics are are at least as important as the track width. But it is true. The track width is...
