Thanks for posting that. I might have to rig up one of these myself.
Nice not to have to cross the room to work the machine when you're sitting at the piano trying to record.
Thanks for posting the photos. I've saved them for reference to build my own. I really like the retro look of your desk. If you can find the sketches, I'd be interested in seeing those too.
Great job.
In a traditional analog setup a buss is used to route a channel signal or a group of channel signals out of the board on one or more busses.
Say you are micing up a drum kit using seven channels (mics) to an eight track tape machine. To avoid bouncing all of those tracks down to two tracks, you...
Mine does the same. While it doesn't stop on a dime it handles the tape very gently.
Just keep your fingers away from those two rotating high-speed fans! :D
I love it!
How wide is just the console itself? And how wide is the total desk?
Do you have plans anywhere you could share? I'd like to do something like this for mine when I build out my studio. A 6' steel bench just doesn't have the same vibe.
While that's true, six years out of a young man's life is not an eternity. He can still record in his bedroom until he finishes his education.
Why spend that much money on something he's going to leave behind in six years or less? Unless he really is going to live at home until he's 30.
16. Two years until graduating HS. Are you going to college? If attending college what will you do afterwards?
My advice would be to keep saving your money to spend on your own place unless you plan on living at home until you're 30.
You've been saving money for six years. Save for another six...
No matter what you call your recording area, a console is pretty much a requirement for recording to analog tape.
And yeah, it does look cool. With or without the lava lamp. ;)
Channels are on the mixer, tracks are on the tape machine.
Try muting the channels that you have mics plugged in to when you are monitoring from the machine through the sub-in's.
From where do you control the mix while monitoring the sub-in's?
Do you have a manual for this mixer?
A few other thoughts...
Never had to upgrade the software or buy new a new OS for my tape machine.
Never ran out of available physical or virtual memory on my tape machine.
Always have enough inputs and outputs.
Latency? On a tape machine?
The tape machine never hangs up because it's...
As Billy Joel wrote: ""It was a beautiful song, but it ran too long. If you're gonna have a hit, you gotta make it fit. So they cut it down to 3:05."
If anyone remembers that tune.
