Thanks again. So I guess my biggest concern is ending up with high quality, expensive cards from Lynx and UAD that won't be supported on future motherboards. I suppose those manufacturers may come out with PCI express versions of those cards, but I haven't seen any indication of this yet...
Thanks Benny. Of course, I've seen video cards that use PCI express slots, and it seems that one of the PCI X 16 slots would be used for this. However, I have no idea what a second X16 slot would be used for, nor what the x1 slots would be used for. And I'm very concerned about the...
OK, what I need is someone to explain in detail the differences in these slot types and what's compatible with which. What I understand so far is that there are two new types of slots on motherboards which are rendering traditional PCI slots obsolete (PCI-X and PCI express). I understand that...
This is true, I only suggested the interlocking MDF stuff as a way to help isolate the room...but if he's only worried about acoustics and not soundproofing, your idea looks really cool.
You could cut 3/4" MDF to fit either inside or over the window frames, with weatherstripping to ask as a...
Hey Cincy, why do the panels HAVE to be 8'? Can't you just make them the height you need so they don't have to slant? Also, how about somehow designing them as interlocking panels with MDF on the back - seems like that should help cut sound transmission to some extent (although they'd be heavy...
Hey guys, I got a response back today from my email to CM Labs. Thought you might be interested in what they had to say:
He also attached the following price list:

As you can see, someone would have to be pretty...
Sounds good - I concur with the others on the vocals. One thing I might add, however, is it would be nice to hear a bit more of the backing vocals on the choruses. Although it's possible that cutting back on the lead vocal might help the harmonies to stand out a bit more. Nice work!
Wow - those guys are asking 2659 for the thing  There's no way it's worth that when you can get a Mackie for 999. Perhaps they know they're the only outlet on the web and they're just trying to rip people off? I did send an email to CM Labs sales department, asking where you can...
That rocks - the kinda tune that makes you want to crank it up! Please post again when it's finished! I'm hoping to hear a shreddin' lead break in the middle of that sucker :D
Thanks...hope it's not that much though. I found a Harmony Central press release from January of 2005 which said the MSRP was 1699. Usually the real store prices are lower than MSRP on most things. I think you can get the Mackie MCU for under a thousand bucks. The MotorMate looks pretty...
Any idea where to find one of these or what they cost? I can't find them on any of my regular product websites (zzounds, musiciansfriend, etc.).
Has anyone ever used one of these with Sonar?
Yeah, I have some nice drum samples and use midi loops to trigger them, but would rather have more feel and variation in my tracks. I actually spent yesterday building a PVC rack for some e-drums (Remo pads which I'm converting with piezos). I'm hoping this will solve my problem, however I'm...
Without getting too carried away, you could do something like this from the same supplier:
Processor Athlon 64 3400+ £275.00
Case Full ATX Black £6.25
Memory 1024Mb DDR £56.25
Hard Drive 80GB 7200RPM £3.75
2nd Hard Drive 250GB 7200RPM £95.00
Optical Drive DVD +/- RW £30.00
Graphics Gforce...
OK, since you stated that you had your monitors and software already taken care of, weren't planning to worry about acoustic treatments at this time, and (I'm assuming) already have decent microphones, then all you should need is a PC and an interface with built-in mic pres to get going. One...
Whoa - I must've missed your second post in this thread. But your first one asked what was a good pitch correction program. Im confused  You actually bought an expensive program without knowing what it does?
If you already own a Cakewalk product you should be able to upgrade to Sonar 5 Producer edition for cheaper than the cost of the Autotune plug. In addition to everything else you'd get in the upgrade, you would also get the Roland V-Vocal plugin which does what you want. There's a demo of this...
Thanks, this is interesting stuff. I think I'll try some testing like this, if for nothing else than a learning experiment. Hopefully, it won't make me too dissapointed in my m-audio converters, though, as I'm not sure I'm ready to be forkin out the cash for Lavry's or something right now!
