Yes definitely, but use a passive DI for your active pickups. A power conditioner, or other sort of isolation transformer like a ground lift box would probably help too with your antiquated wiring. Is there no ground at all? Some times old metal electrical boxes were tied to earth.

Are you using any kind of DI box? Is it a balanced line?

How are you recording? DI, mic'd up? The bass in the recording sounded like it was being played with a pick. I'm not a bassist, but I'd guess there's some reverb, chorus, EQ, and compression going on there too.
