    Adventures in Woodworking: The Workbench

Yeah, that probably isn't a good idea. Always keep your eye out for clamps at yard sales, flea markets, etc.

    I'm building a new guitar

Now that I'm back to where I was a few weeks ago before the lacquer cracked, it's time for some of the other tasks. Yesterday I leveled, and crowned the frets. They didn't take much work at all to dress up. The sapele neck feels really solid. I'm anxious to hear this one! I took a clean-up...

    DV52 guild acoustic pickup problem

It's really important that the piezo pickup that lies under the saddle fits perfectly. If there are gaps anywhere it will cause an imbalance in the tone. This can make it favor the bass strings because there's more tension on them. It might be as simple to fix as cutting a new saddle.

Les Paul Junior group build thread : Tools

Router Sled I built my original router sled a couple of years ago after looking at a few different designs. I added some things to it to make it more versatile. The elaboration resulted in a bigger, more cumbersome jig. This time around, I've built one that is more conventional, simpler, and...

Cool, if that's the sound you're after. I've never had anyone ask me to put their MIM pickups back into their guitar.

Video Comparison - Fender Texas Special and Dimarzio Area '61

It's difficult to compare from a video. Much of the flavor, and character of the single coils is lost in the compression of the audio. These are attributes that the noiseless pickups didn't have to begin with. It's not a fair contest. Side by side in person, Your opinion might change. Not...

Les Paul Junior group build thread : Outline and the way forward.

Very Cool! I like getting those packages from overseas. Making a pickup isn't hard to do. If you send me a bobbin, I'll spool it up and pot it for you. The rest of the construction is easy, plus you will have a custom pickup to your specs made from the best parts, and you'll save a bunch of...

Les Paul Junior group build thread : Outline and the way forward.

I buy just the nuts, and make rods similar to the traditional rods from stewmac. I would prefer those to the newer Gibson type. On a traditional style truss rod, it's necessary to have a fillet piece that is glued into the neck. This requires more work than a pre-made style that only needs a...

    I'm building a new guitar

I worked through much of the weekend, but I'm moving along with the re-finish on the one that cracked. Last night I dusted off the automatic winder, and spooled up a bunch of P-90 bobbins.

Family first and foremost, but whenever you're ready, the parts don't add up to very much. I wouldn't be able to do this myself if I couldn't do it cheap. There are a few other things that you don't see besides the truss rod, like fretwire, and a nut. I build my own truss rods. There's an...

Meanwhile in a garage in Las Vegas... Everything that I ordered Monday arrived yesterday, and today, Friday via standard shipping. It still amazes me how fast I can have these pieces in my hands. Not only did the parts that I ordered show up, but Dan at guitarpartsusa threw in a bunch of free...

    I'm building a new guitar

I'll have to try that next time. I had already scuffed if down before saw your suggestion. I didn't spray it yet though. There's too much dust in the shop, and it's too windy outside. I delivered one of the pieces that I've been working on today. It's a huge, 9' 4" long recording desk for a...
